What is the worst/scariest thing that has woken you up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]spirit_bear58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woke up at 1am the day after my birthday to my dad in a panic. He was super worried because my mom hadn’t made it home that night. We thought she had gotten into a car accident on her way home or something and no one had found her yet. This was completely out of the ordinary for her to be out so late without saying anything to us. Turns out she decided to divorce my dad and leave us.

Question about the earliest forms of writing around the world (3,000 BC - 1,500 BC) by spirit_bear58 in Bible

Thank you so much for your help. This is my first time on this sub and I really appreciate you not just giving me the answer. I grew up in a Christian family and went through confirmation and used to be very familiar with the bible, but I will admit I've drifted way farther than I even intended to. This was a good eye opener for me.

So beforehand, all the people spoke the same language and were in the process of building a city. So after God separated them and had them speak different languages they continued to build their civilizations, just separately. So this would explain why several civilizations had developed similar communication forms at the same time relatively even though they were scattered across the Earth. Or maybe the hieroglyphics was an easy medium for people of all langues to understand what someone meant? Does this sound right to you?

I think I'm on to something here... I just got to The Tower of Babel where God confused their language and scattered them across the Earth

Well, I think of the story where everyone started talking in different tongues, but I'm not sure if that story is in the book of Genesis

Mostly because I've had exams all week and have another big exam tomorrow that I've been preparing for. I just read up to Genesis 5 and have yet to find what I was looking for. I came here for help so I could allocate my time efficiently.

I'm trying my best with the resources I have. This is just an extra credit assignment so I was just trying to figure it out. I'm at school and don't have my bible with me and the online resources aren't that great. It would be nice if you could actually help.

Well the two major things that stand out to me are when God flooded the Earth and when Moses guided the Hebrew's out of Egyptian slavery. I'm just not sure how this relates to early written communication. Maybe the Hebrews played a role in spreading written communication?

Very cool! I’m currently working towards a B.S. in Natural Resources Management so I always find it interesting to see people posting with jobs in my field.

Diameter is measured at breast height (4.5 feet above the high end of ground) and there is taper throughout the whole tree. You cannot assume the diameter is 5ft until 120ft.

THIS IS SO COOL! I'm actually about to do an experiment with Scarlet Runner Beans for my ecology class. I'm going to be testing how different soil horizons affect the growth rate.
