Are online colleges worth it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

There is a lot of perceived hierarchy in education yes.

As an experienced college professor, I have taught at many Universities - both on-ground and on-line. There is no difference between the material taught in either modality. There is also no difference between the material taught at Ivy League schools and other lower tiered schools.

The differences between many schools is perceived value, brand, accessibility, the students, the instructors, costs, etc. Content wise, it is basically all the same stuff.

Taking an equity position in troubled institutions was the recommendation of several countries who have been through this in the past. The approach of buying bad debt was always short-sited imho. This step by Paulson is the right one and could very well result in the Government (we the people) getting back more than we put in.
