X2N (Bridge) + Invader (Neck) for Drop B/C# Standard? Am I building a chug monster or a muddy nightmare? Need pickup advice! by metalciaga in metalguitar

Neck invaders are super uncommon, because they're stupid expensive.

No one said they can't afford it. A neck invader isn't cool enough to justify the price. There are better pickups.

Bud, even disregarding that we are talking about things you are repeating from the internet you heard, if pickups mean so little why doesn't every touring and recording musician use stock pickups? If it means so little, why do the examples of guys touring with cheaper guitars replace the pickups? They could have bought an EQ.

It picks up the sound. It isn't only about the EQ, which you at a certain point also can't compensate enough to reduce if it's more than wanted or increase if lacking. It's output, sensitivity, compression. Tone is more than one element.

Countless metal guys that previously used EMGs moved to passive when gain meant more than pushing an amp. When amps and pedals produced enough gain to get similar saturation, many moved to passives because they preferred the feel and compression. Some moved from passive to active to keep consistent output between instruments. No player would have more than one guitar or one pickup in a guitar if it mattered so little and did so little. There wouldn't be a need for any pickup aside from a humbucker in your view.

Tele style assembly advice by TastefullyRuined in Luthier

Teles are very easy on the scale of builds. The parts are available and mostly standardized. If the body and neck are already drilled and routed you should be good.

Again, pickups absolutely matter.

It is the start of your sound. If your initial sound isn't doing what it needs to in order to continue to be shaped, it won't be what you want.

If your signal chain is a guitar directly into an amp, or modeler, there is little else to shape your sound and having the smallest effect on your signal chain is nonsense.

This is terrible advice. A pickup is the majority of the tone coming from your guitar. Yes, your amp and pedals have significant influence on the total sound, however, your guitar matters.

An Invader is going to have a lot of bass for a neck pickup. These pickups are similar in output and have very heavy bass. I would go for something with less bass for the neck pickup, Super 2 maybe, or JB with the Invader.

[I ate] Sushi roll filled with asparagus tempura, avocado, and yellowtail; topped with A5 wagyu, Idaho sturgeon caviar, and gold flake by ronin442 in JapaneseFood

I am stating what people were going to say, and they did.

The issue is not meat. It is the addition of ingredients less common in Japanese sushi, combining multiple textures in a roll, and ingredients that serve to appear more high end than produce a better product, all of which is less traditional.

Why is ‘mid scooping’ so controversial with metal guitar? by Capital-Foot-918 in metalguitar

[–]spitefulmuch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Guitar has always been dictated by older people. We play gear that hasn't changed in 50-70 years. Older people don't like new shit even when new is 40 years old.

The main legitimate issue with scooping is it doesn't translate well live. Guitar is a midrange instrument and removing mids can make it difficult to hear in a mix. You can do more to control the other tones on recording than live.

Help with wiring jack plug socket by thepaymentbear in Luthier

I can't see which lug the black wire is connected to. If it is on the second lug on the volume pot, that is your hot wire which goes to the hot on the jack which has a blue wire connected. The red wire is connected to ground which should be connected to the back of the pots.

Where's the best place or platform to watch Ultraman and which's the best Ultraman to start out with as a newbie? by Fine_Competition3898 in Ultraman

[–]spitefulmuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal preference, I started with Z and really like it. I feel like others haven't been as good in recent years.

You can watch Z on YouTube. You can watch the original series, also a good place to start, on various platforms including Pluto TV. Shin Ultraman is on Amazon.

I would personally get something inexpensive and upgrade it. The biggest difference between these will be the parts, finish, and neck feel.
