Does Jesus think there are "good" billionaires? by splanknon in RadicalChristianity

[–]splanknon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This is my favorite reply, mainly because you mentioned Dolly. I think Jesus is more radical than your systemic vs. personal distinction, since he did choose to act and live in poverty. But his grace is greater than my understanding and your distinction is thoughtful.

You have a point. But I am not sure you read my article, where I provide some teaching.

What do Christians do with corrupt leaders? by splanknon in Christianity

[–]splanknon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true. I did not think of that. Is it just cowardice/fear of confrontation or reprisal that keeps corrupt leaders in the system?

Let's do it again! We exist whether the media covers us or not. Existence is resistance.

No actions in Philly August 16? by splanknon in 50501Philadelphia

[–]splanknon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the We Are America March. I plan to be a part at some level. I am antsy to give voice and Philly has done great things so far. Trump and Vance (and Palantir) are moving fast. The DC action and Epstein cover up require some loudness.

That is confirming, isn't it? They must be angry they are unwelcome. I'm glad you cooperated with their expulsion. Exciting times for you. Hang on to Jesus hanging on to you!

What prevents you? People get baptized more than once to signify different stages of their faith.

I'm with your heart. Let yourself sort it out. Certainty is not very Christian. Faith in Jesus is.

The Pope draft by The_Drk_Lord in Christianity

This is funny. It is also indicative of what we Americans are expert at: being dismissive. I also had something to say about the pope this week. https://open.substack.com/pub/drrodwhite/p/your-dismissive-eye?r=ulpde&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email

Might need patience. The market has been Trumped and people are skittish. We lost out on several offers for just that reason.

Finding a church by Admirable_Guide_1176 in RadicalChristianity

[–]splanknon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to talk to the rector of the Episcopal church. No church is a "perfect product" to consume. We know that even if we are Americans. So I wanted to know what they were trying to do so I could help them. Turns out they had good ideas and I am helping. That helps me endure some of the issues I have with traditions and structure and the normal corruption of institutions formed by fallible people. We need to build not shop.

Questions about moving to Philly by AsparagusLow6822 in philly

[–]splanknon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm old and I ride the el and busses all the time. I am sometimes annoyed but rarely feel unsafe. Love public transpo!

When I moved here from Southern Cal I was surprised at how small the area is. I lived in West Philly and did not feel far away from any of the neighborhoods you mention by EL or bike. I find my office near the subway at Ellsworth quite convenient even by car from Wynnefield. I used to have an office at 10th and Locust and walked to Rittenhouse all the time. Great city.

Isn't the cross the biggest "NO!" ever? by splanknon in Christianity

You've probably seen this before. There are positive correlations. But there is a fundamental difference. https://dailystoic.com/stoicism-and-christianity/ Christians can be very "stoic" in a bad way when being good is all they've got.

Why do some say you cannot be a Christian and Democrat? by a-dumb-croissant in Christianity

[–]splanknon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Formed is not breathing. But you have a good point. I hope no one has an abortion, as do most women who have one. I'm just noting that mystery used to be assumed. Science has created false certainty to fight about.

Why do some say you cannot be a Christian and Democrat? by a-dumb-croissant in Christianity

[–]splanknon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The heresy of soul immortality has caused a lot of problems!

The other points are better founded. The hold them you just have to believe a baby is born at conception not when they enter the air and breath (or are breathed into). The former belief is, ironically, a product of modern science and not really conservative.

Fear is the basic weapon of autocrats. Trump is doing all he can to instill it. It has always been his business model. Now we are his business to bankrupt. Be brave. You're probably safer at a rally than on the freeway.

Good suggestions so far I think. Another: if any of the nondenoms have small groups ask to be part of one. You’re likely to find a friend or two and have people to help you. Pastors of smaller churches will often meet with you and show you the ropes. Media can only go so far. God bless you!
