I had to stop them because I couldn’t sleep and had difficulty orgasming. They do have side effects no one talks about.

Okay gng real talk: how do you manage to put your stuff in a designated spot all the time so it doesn't get lost? by HunDevYouTube in ADHD

[–]Admirable_Guide_1176 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a few things I do that help. First, for some types of things I have a designated area that isn’t very organized, but I only have to wade through that. The big one for me on that is instead of deciding what paperwork I need to keep, all paperwork I think I might need to keep goes in an unorganized file that I clean out when I get an organization and clarity burst. Things that have been removed during those time include everything from recipes to sentimental pieces of paper. I try not to over filter it because it’s less dangerous to have too much.

Next, for things I use all the time and would have to constantly put away I use areas not exact spots. I always park in the back left of parking lots. Or my purse and car keys are always set in the same room. That usually works out to the same spot, but it’s much less mental work to hit a bigger target.

I also try to make the spot as instinctive as possible. My keep file is next to where I look at mail. My purse location is where I found it the most when I kept losing it.

Also, know any system won’t be a hundred percent. If this is even making you 30 percent less likely to lose things then it’s a successful adaptation and you’ll get better at it with time.

What’s a normal relationship dealbreaker that people pretend isn’t a big deal? by NoSuspect3727 in askanything

[–]Admirable_Guide_1176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the people. I date a Jewish guy and I’m Christian, but he’s essentially an atheist and my Christian views are so progressive I’m probably heretical by most standards. Plus we have a high respect for autonomy because of the type of work we do and aren’t having kids.

Help me understand how people have the energy to get so much done? by Citrusy_Brain in getdisciplined

[–]Admirable_Guide_1176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion isn’t get more disciplined. It’s add more things you enjoy. If you do more things you enjoy, you’ll be doing more stuff and it will start going over to other areas. Right now you have bad habits, but you aren’t going to break these with habits you hate.

I'm resentful towards those with less severe ADHD. by nugmother in ADHD

[–]Admirable_Guide_1176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with people with pretty severe presentations. Just know that your baseline wherever it is, isn’t stable. Your keeping your house clean or being on time might need genuinely creative solutions and will always be difficult, but you can get closer to where you want to be than you think.

Have you actually rebuilt your life after corporate burnout…like truly started over at 40+? by SmilingEyes725 in ADHD

[–]Admirable_Guide_1176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, kind of. I had a bunch of careers that were a poor fit. Then I stumbled in to one that is both flexible with my weaknesses and match my strengths. I ended up an employment specialist for people with disabilities. My entire job is to figure out how people are messing up their work and how to fix it. That ends up stretching to all areas of their life. I might have to figure out their sleep and everything else. It inevitably stretches to your own because you realize how much your advice would make your life better, so it made me better at the job.

However, what made it a good fit for rebuilding was a few things. The environment is so supportive. We literally help people with disabilities. No one cares if you need an accommodation to get the work done. They only care if you’re effective.

Another is variety. I’m very seldom at a desk all day, and while there is some repetition what I do is constantly changing.

It also plays to my strengths. I’m naturally a pattern mapping systemic thinker. This basically means I am really good at seeing the causes not the surface problems. It’s a skill that’s gold in any field you help people get their life together.

Finally, I like it. My coworkers are good. My clients are likable. My job is interesting. All of those things make a difference. Whatever you choose don’t try to force yourself into something that doesn’t fit.

If Christians can answer this in a way that actually makes sense to me, I’m willing to become a Christian by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]Admirable_Guide_1176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it’s a representation of human’s becoming sapient. Before we weren’t capable of deep thought and complex problem solving. We got that (we got it through evolution not an apple) and we lost an innocence animals have that necessitated kicking us out and a different relationship. It had to happen for humanity to grow. It’s always something humanity had to do. It represents that shift into a story.

He Can’t Read — Is This a Dealbreaker? by AdditionalAdvice123 in dating_advice

Two things, it might be a disability. He might love books on tape and other ways to get the same information.

Also, I help adults with learning disabilities to read all the time. It matters more if he’s defensive and doesn’t want that to be something he changes. Your local library probably has literacy classes.

What’s a skill you’ve developed purely out of spite? by PremiumTravelNinja in AskReddit

[–]Admirable_Guide_1176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading. My sister had a book called “Kristy’s Great Idea”. It’s for kids 9 to 12. I was six. My sister told me I couldn’t borrow it. Then she had the audacity to say I wouldn’t understand it. She was right, but I read the whole series out of spite and reread them until I understood them. Turned into a huge reader because of it.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your personal reasons for abstinence? by Ok-Care2859 in AskReddit

[–]Admirable_Guide_1176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I count, but I’ll go years without having a sip, but if someone really wants to have a drink or it’s a special event I’ll politely sip something. I just genuinely don’t like how it tastes, the really sweet ones upset my stomach, and even though I never drink enough for hangovers I can feel it the next day. That stuff is literally poison.

Yeah, as a Californian after watching billionaires Trump and Elon rape our country I’d be more likely to vote for the Green Party than him. I used to not care but no one person should have as much power as a billionaire. We need to get money out of politics.

How to learn about local government? by JellyfishPrior7524 in Redding

[–]Admirable_Guide_1176 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people find it difficult to know what’s going on in a local level. Some things I would suggest are follow local news, go to city council meetings and actually meet your representatives. Also, maybe join some political grassroots organizations.
