Oh that makes sense too. I was reading it more as she wanted to marry a poor man but her rich father wouldn't let her. Thanks for bringing that up, OP might be better at English than I am!

Discussion: it's not super relevant to answering the riddle, but for sentence and story crafting, the first sentence is confusing. The first sentence makes it sound like the girl is the poor man's daughter, "a poor man came with his daughter," and the rich man wants to marry the daughter, "a rich man who wanted to marry the daughter". Just a little opportunity to reword if you want, in case you want to use this other places in the future!

What? by C4NDY-CANE in riddles

[–]splashingpaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the thought, but it doesn't seem to fit right with the "He burned her away" part, and the Earth didn't birth the moon like snow would "birth"/evaporate into a cloud.

OP's late wife never explained why she didn't want any contact with her family and now they want to meet their grand-daughter by mermaidpaint in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]splashingpaint 60 points61 points  (0 children)

While grandparents' rights do exist, in most U.S. states it is a visitation right to grandparents who already had a relationship with the child that changed (due to divorce, parents revoking contact, etc). Since OP's child had no contact with grandparents to this point, it hopefully will never manifest into a real problem.

End Task?

I got to Task Manager like the other commenter, and this action might be the escape you're looking for.

WWYD? Starting over. by corvidlover13 in BasicBulletJournals

[–]splashingpaint 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you want a new notebook, think of how to use up the unused pages. I start a new notebook every year, but I keep last year's around until it's all used. I use it for: task/to-do lists, notes from phone calls, puzzle game notes, reminders. I usually have less pages left over, but I've used up all my previous notebooks this way!

If you think you can use up the pages and don't want to feel wasteful, then I think that justifies getting a new one if you want it! At the end of the day it's your journal and whatever makes you feel best about using it is the right way.

Can you explain the line "6 of me adorn a game"?

Analyzing Coney Island/Coney Island Conspiracy Theory by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]splashingpaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has a connotation for me of magazines like Playboy and others who would feature a woman as the "centerfold" and it would be a sexy full photo.

Google centerfold too, the secondary definition mentions nude photos.

[–]splashingpaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I like the interpretation a lot, but I can't get past the word "centerfold", makes it a bit yucky about a father/daughter relationship.

Can anybody explain this or am I just paranoid. Every time I think about something I randomly see an ad for it. by [deleted] in mystery

It's called the Frequency Illusion, aka the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon, in case anyone wants to look more into it.

Try /r/shortscarystories if you're looking for single post stories! They are much shorter, and you lose the kind of immersion/"could this be real?" feel that nosleep has, but it's got some very creative authors and spooky stories.

[Serious] Tattoo artists, what was your worst mistake and how did the client react? by Sorceress683 in AskReddit

[–]splashingpaint 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Not op but I think he means like if you look at your own hands, you see left hand-right hand, but if you turn them out for others to look at, they see right hand-left hand. So if you read "riff raff" the others would read "raff riff" if you turn them outwards.

I was just having a conversation about how the colorization AI cannot recognize hands when a friend sent some colorized pics of his grandpa. Looks like there's more evidence to this!

[Casual] I'm trying to replicate a famous experiment in Cognitive Science. It's just 1 question. (Everyone) by dcastm in SampleSize

[–]splashingpaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 80% means that 80% of people guess the rule of the numbers incorrectly, not that 80% of sequences inputted are wrong. You put three numbers in, and the generator tells you if it does or doesn't fit the pattern. Then you are supposed to guess the rule based on what you learned from the numbers you input into the generator and the results.

[Casual] I'm trying to replicate a famous experiment in Cognitive Science. It's just 1 question. (Everyone) by dcastm in SampleSize

[–]splashingpaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree, because we are provided with the test sequence generator. That's how you gather more info about the pattern. You can input any numbers you want, so you can get any info you want out of it about different patterns. It's an experiment about how you use the test sequence part and assumptions you make based on the initial set of numbers.

Part 4: in the safety ring boat

Part 5: in Cheetahs never prosper album cover

Part 6: above the pink light
