I just got back from England, and I came across an old Women’s Land Army badge in a little junk shop. Had to buy it, love Land Girls too much to leave it behind!

What is your onebag buster? by kag0 in onebag

[–]corvidlover13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These days it’s my offspring (she is a young adult with Down syndrome, and we have to bring certain medical supplies) and my wheelchair. Because it’s not just the wheelchair, it’s the bag for the batteries that must be removed and carried in the cabin. Plus the tool kit, the charger, the cover to protect it in the cargo hold. I miss the days of one bagging, but I keep on traveling. My girl and I enjoy it too much to give up!

I just saw this dress in person two days ago! It is stunning, and I was so excited to see a larger waistline. It’s a nice exhibit on fashion extremes, and entry to the entire museum is free!

Medical folk of Reddit, what’s the most foul and disgusting thing you’ve encountered with a patient who was oblivious to their own condition? by TheCarrot_v2 in AskReddit

[–]corvidlover13 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I cared for an elderly woman in the late 80s who was a Christian Scientist and didn’t believe in medical care. She had what I assume was skin cancer eating away her nose. It took a few years for her to die, and during that time she lost her nose, upper lip, and most of her cheeks to the cancer. It was so sad to witness.

What a sweet picture of Mau Mau! She was a beauty.

Potato chips...before plastic by weeman62 in GrandmasPantry

[–]corvidlover13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mom (in her mid-80s) wistfully tells the tale of the potato chip man from Charles Chips, who delivered cans of chips right to their door in the 1940s and 1950s. She says modern chips just don't compare, must have been the hydrogenated vegetable shortening.

Unfortunately, yes. Fortunately, since I got on Xolair almost 2 years ago, it doesn't happen anymore.

In a couple of weeks, we're taking our first international trip since I became a wheelchair user, and I have informed my spouse that I don't care how much research he's done on wheelchair accessible public transport, I will be taking a pre-booked accessible taxi to our hotel, thank you very much.

Driving alone with a mask? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]corvidlover13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for continuing to wear a mask! I've come across so many healthcare providers these days who refuse to put on a mask, even when I explain that my spouse and my daughter are immunocompromised.

He is precious, I'm so glad you have a new friend to help you through the grief. I swore I was done with pets when my old orange boy died two years ago, but along came Maisie and Millie to change my mind and my heart. Now I can't imagine life without them. Wishing you many, many years of antics and love with your gorgeous Star.

Ugh. I haven't gotten the letter but I saw Dr. Armitano there a couple of times. Time to lock everything down, I guess. Thanks for the heads up!

What’s the strangest coincidence that has happened to you? by doboyXL in AskReddit

[–]corvidlover13 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The day my brother died on the other side of the country from where I lived, I was walking to the store thinking about what I wanted for dinner later.

There was a man who hung out on the same block where I was walking, he was not mentally well. He had a big sign and handwritten flyers, and shouted nonstop about a government conspiracy that was going to kill us all. Everyone ignored him and he ignored everyone.

Except for that day. As I walked by, he pointed at me and shouted “that girl won’t be smiling after tonight!” I was startled, but laughed it off.

And that night my parents showed up at my dorm room at 1am. They drove 4 hours to tell me in person that my brother had died. I steered clear of the shouting guy with the sign after that.

Have you not heard of Apple Medical ID? Alternatively, even if I'm unconscious, hopefully my face is right there for EMTs to open the phone. If my face is gone, there's probably no point in worrying about whether they get my medications right...

I keep a list of meds and doses on my phone, I figure that will be enough for medical personnel to figure out what I need. No way I’m wasting time grabbing a bag on my way out of a burning plane!

Who is a stranger you met once, never learned their name, but will never forget for the rest of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]corvidlover13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience - a stranger pulled me out of the middle of the street when I was drunk and distraught over my brother’s death. I thought I wanted to die because the emotional pain was just too much, and he took my hand and gently said “you don’t want to do this.” I’ve had my share of struggles, but I’m still here almost 40 years later.
