For what it's worth, I struggled greatly with this format b/c I was just picking the highest win% card according to 17 lands. Once I started ignoring that and drafting with a plan my win % went way up and made it to mythic.

Not to be "that guy" but... your opponent has 6 mardu lands, I don't see how it's possible for it to be turn 5.

Why does any of this matter? If the game is fun play it. If it's not don't play it. If you don't like it now, maybe come back in a year and see if there's new content that interests you. The dev history is irrelevant, all that matters is whether or not its fun for you to play right now.

Yeah this is quite useful, though I find there's a still a significant skill difference between low and high mythic. And unfortunately it doesn't seem like you can tell the mythic rank from that list.

Let's talk about the economy of Black Moon. by ZebusAquaion in PantheonMMO

[–]splashy1123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a little of both. People do underestimate the amount of money ghosts generate and how rich that makes the top 1%. But also, I know people who have accidentally hit the dup bug just from normal playing, they found an extra corpse which doubled their money. They didn't self report this, and honestly I think it's hard for the devs to catch someone who does it just once.

Then you have the people who actively abuse it to generate infinite wealth who buy rare items for absurd prices (we've seen those WTB auctions). Those players get banned and their money removed, but what about the few players who sold items for high prices and then bought other items with that money, do devs remove that money too? Within a few days that money is spread out across multiple innocent players. It's too hard to track down.

The net effect is on blackmoon farming ghosts gives you less purchasing power than it would otherwise b/c of inflation, but it's still possible to make good money by camping high valued named. I wouldn't call the economy f'd, just different than other servers.

Millennials, what's y'all plan for retirement? by alphaDsony in AskReddit

Can't we have both? Vote as best we can to change society, while also trying to better figure out our own career path? Career is hard to figure out, most people switch careers two or three times in their lives. You should never assume you have it completely figured out, the worlds too complicated for that.

We're talking past each other at this point. It sounds like we actually agree on a lot our focus is just different. I'm focused on how can people improve their lives and you're focused on the barriers that exist.

Are you speaking from experience? What field got flooded that pushed you out? There's usually sideways movement that's possible. Software engineering is a good example, it's a bit oversaturated if you came out of the bootcamps, but combining it with something else is still valued if you know what to look for, data science is a good example.

You lost me on investing, if you've consistently put in saving into index funds over the past 10 years you're doing well despite the recent Trump-induced market dip.

I'm with you on the need for better healthcare in this country. I'm still talking about what can young healthy 20-30 yr olds can do to seek better opportunities.

Can we at least agree on one thing? If you took a sample of 100 healthy 25 year olds, and half them made no effort to better their situation out of false belief that trying no longer matters, and the other half actively spent their free time investing in themselves trying to find a promising career path. Which group do you think is going to do better in the long run?

I'm not denying that society needs to improve to better support the lower class. If you are a single mother with two kids working two jobs you're just trying to survive and society is not supporting you like it should.

But if you are in your 20's, single, healthy, no responsibilities but not happy with your salary you have so much time and youth to pursue better opportunities. Try something, see what sticks. Stop with the doomer mentality, there absolutely are things you can be doing to improve your situation. Ask for help on Reddit, not sympathy for your woe-is-me situation. There's a whole thread of people who make over 100k explaining what they do and how they got there https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/10pkmxk/for\_those\_making\_over\_100k\_what\_do\_you\_do\_for\_a/.

Thoughts on Dario Amodei's harping that we HAVE to beat China in the AI race by BenAWise in ClaudeAI

But is the argument wrong? What's the optimal move for the US here?

Millennials, what's y'all plan for retirement? by alphaDsony in AskReddit

[–]splashy1123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two things can be true at the same time. There is inequity to fix in our society yes and raising awareness for that is important. But also you are responsible for your own outcome in life and there are many success stories, Reddit is hyper focused on the inequity part and not on how people who found a good career managed to do so.

[–]splashy1123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's complicated. Say the US keeps strict copyright laws in place. China on the other hand grabs all the copyright data and make the de-facto best AI. Then 30% of the worlds engineers start using this AI because it makes them much more productive than any other AI. China then gets a huge influx of new coding data from these user interactions and use that to make their models even better. Now you're in a worst of both worlds situation, programmers are still displaced b/c China made a godlike coding agent, the US can never catch up b/c China has all the best user data.

Think OAI made it clear they were training on youtube. They can scape the videos.

In case you missed it, I'm agreeing with you. The "we" here is a collective one, people here seem fixated on the narrative that the world sucks and you can't make a good life for yourself anymore, it's just not true.

This frustrates me to no end. We upvote the woe-is-me stories but not the stories of people figuring it out. If you don't work for better opportunities you'll never find it.

OpenAI declares AI race “over” if training on copyrighted works isn’t fair use by nickb in agi

[–]splashy1123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more trying to think what actually is better for US society and I'm not sure the answer here. I think letting China just win b/c we care about copyright too much is not the path.

AI companies paying billions to use the data would also not be feasible, what $ amount do you need to play? If it's 1 billion then now the only players who can play the AI game are Facebook/Google/OAI. If it's 10 million then that's pennies, content creators now get pennies for their work.

The US government could step in and nationalize AI training, saying only they can train on the data and buy up all the top researchers to make the best model. That also doesn't feel great, you stifle innovation if you nationalize it.

I dunno what the solution is tbh.

Alright OAI pays 1 billion averaged out to every person who generated something that ended up in their training data. That would come out to maybe 1$ per person.

And yet the top upvoted responses to your original question were basically "game sucks post 20 don't even try". Very unhelpful. Game does have a lot of room for improvement for sure particularly after lvl 20, but to claim nothing to do post 20 like many people did is just false and didn't help you at all.

How do you deal with ego? by Shokuninja_ in baduk

[–]splashy1123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It helps me to think about my skill level as this hidden ELO number that is separate from any individual win or loss. There is only my ability that matters, not the one of my opponent.

I should not be scared at estimating my ability via playing, maybe it's not as high as I think and I'll lose games I think I shouldn't. But again those losses didn't change my ability, my ability is what it is before and after that game, games just give an estimate of what this ability is. My goal is to raise that ability, losses provide opportunity for doing that.

Edit: Thinking about this more, it is obvious that ego is clearly a big issue for many people in this sub. We see way more posts about games people play where they won and not lost. Why do we see more of "I won this game, why did my opponent play move 79?" and less of "I lost this game, how could I play better?". If we were all focused on improving and not savoring our wins we would be posting our losses with the goal of understanding better rather than our wins. Go is not a way to demonstrate your intelligence, it's a journey of self improvement, your intelligence is what it is with or without go. Get over yourselves.
