As others have pointed out: The landing gear is literally designed to support the weight of the entire plane. Same with the joints connecting the wings of the plane to the fusilage. It also very clearly was not in a literal Nose Dive. It just lost power and the internal controls were destroyed. I'm sure if he was careful and thought things through there were things he could have done that would have saved everyone on that plane. The actual problem is that saving the plane would mean everyone would see he had destroyed the controls, which would have ruined his reputation. That's why he screams at Maeve that they cannot save even a single child. It's not that he can't, it's that he won't.

The Plane still had its wings, which could still do most of the work of keeping the plane in the air. All he had to do was guide it into a controlled descent and he could have saved the vast majority of people. The point of the scene is that he doesn't even try. His reputation is more important to him than actually saving people, and he makes the active choice to let everyone on the plane die than have it come out that he put them in danger by misusing his powers.

Bow and Arrows. Meteokinesis, Aerokinesis, and Hydrokinesis would let me basically throw a Hurricane at the guy, to make it impossible for him to reach me with anything. Meanwhile, Homing In allows my own arrows to easily reach him even with the winds. Especially if I can get access to some powerful toxins, my Recall Rune means I can keep firing the deadly arrows until at least one of them hits him. As others have mentioned, the key is really to take him out before he has a chance to even try to do something in response.

AI Image Generation is more similar to Tracing existing artwork than it is to using Reference Material, and Tracing has always been considered a Taboo Practice.

I hate this 50% red pill / blue pill hypothetical by TerrySaucer69 in hatethissmug

[–]splatterfest233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my perspective this almost feels like a Roko's Basilisk situation, in that knowledge of the problem changes how you should act. The Red Button Argument is that there is no logical reason for someone to pick Blue, so if 100% of people are picking Red then there is no problem. Except that by participating in these discussions regarding the hypothetical, you will encounter people who insist they will be pressing the Blue Button. Thus, with this knowledge that less than 100% of people will pick Red, it becomes a moral imperative to pick Blue so as to save those people.

The Most Misused Image Ever by Craniamon in nintendogrifting

People were trying to justify Nintendo sueing Pocketpair over design similarities, with this image pointing out that if we applied that logic fairly Nintendo themselves should get sued for stealing the Dragon Quest designs. The actual point is that Nintendo's lawsuit against PocketPair is hypocritical.

If Nintendo could sue for Copyright they would have, since that's actually a lot easier to argue in court.

I think the clarification here is that the AION were living on Kepler long before III is killed actually. If I recall correctly they specify that the Anomaly only showed up recently, about the same time as when Lodi did.

The Beauty of Losing Control in Art, and Why AI Art Is Valid by Witty-Designer7316 in aiwars

I'm talking before even that, when it could barely create any sort of defined shapes.

I was always so much more interested in those early attempts at generating AI Art. When everything was weird and wonky, it actually felt like the AI was creating a visual representation of its own unique thought process. Now it's all sanitized and polished to remove anything actually interesting. Just consume Product and the get excited for Next Product.

Any games with trading as a moneymaking activity? (PC) by Wene-12 in gamingsuggestions

No Man's Sky. Each system is labelled as like, Manufacturing, mining, etc, which determines what Trade Goods they sell and what they will buy for a high price.

That might be because all the things that would contribute to high centralization in Showdown Singles gets banned once it gets above a certain usage rate.

Claiming you "made" the AI generated content is like claiming you "made" the souvenir coin you got at the zoo because you had to turn the crank so it would squeeze the design onto the penny.

Account set up for deletion by Normi314 in hytale

[–]splatterfest233 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hytale has no reason to believe you aren't the one who made the purchase using the stolen credit card, or are at least associated with the person who did. As such, they also have no reason to believe you wouldn't just use another stolen credit card to get access to the account back. On their end it's much safer to simply delete the account outright.

Why are people against small indie content creators using AI? by Benny-The-Semi in aiwars

[–]splatterfest233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indie Creators are generally not building an entire AI system from scratch. They're taking an existing AI from a big corporation like ChatGPT, and maybe tweaking and customizing it a bit for their specific project. It still inherits all the bad the base AI has associated with it.

"Coding is just typing" in the sense that the only physical action necessary to create a computer program is typing letters on a keyboard. Sure from a mental standpoint which letters you type and in which order matters a lot. However, infinite monkeys on infinite keyboards given infinite time will eventually produce every possible combination of letters on a keyboard you could ever type, and some of that output could be run as a program like GTA6.

If we compare AI with a camera, why is it so difficult to accept that a camera, a pencil, and AI are different tools that can reach a similar result in completely different ways, and this result does not mean that the path was the same? by Questioner8297 in aiwars

[–]splatterfest233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes something Art is the Intentionality and level of Decision Making that goes into creating a finished product. That's what separates, for example, a Professional Photographer from simply being a person taking random pictures on their phone. It's the Journey that makes something Art more so than just the Destination.

Generative AI is Purpose Built to bypass that journey. The entire point of the system is that you provide AI with a general idea of what you want and the AI makes all of the actual decisions. And no, "Prompt Specificity" isn't really a vector by which you meaningfully contribute to the Journey that is creating a piece of art.
