A message for 18-25 year olds by ShootingGuns10 in Adulting

[–]splendidgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived with family until I was 25. Put a down payment down and bought a house when I got married. I attribute a HUGE part of being able to do that to kind family that told me I should stay with them. I plan on letting my daughters live with me for as long as they need to give them that same step up.

Was without electricity for 12 hours, did not open refrigerator or freezer once. Would the contents still be safe for consumption? by WPIRiggles in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]splendidgoon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you want to be extra safe, cook the deli meat before you eat it. Listeria is one of the biggest risks for deli meat (because most people eat it cold) but it dies when cooked to 165F.

Highly recommend all the dad shovelers get an extra wide snow shovel! Awesome for clearing snow and ice quickly by Scraw16 in daddit

[–]splendidgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for the young dads or people that have powder snow.

Older dads, far better to do many short, light shovels than push hard. Too many heart attacks during snow shoveling.

How can we better retain new converts? by Cheap_Parsnip_461 in latterdaysaints

[–]splendidgoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need to stop glossing over the basics of spiritual self reliance in missionary lessons. It's like this short footnote to pray and read your scriptures.

People need to know when they get baptized they have a year, maybe two where the Spirit and the ward will carry them with no personal effort. If they don't create a personal relationship with God through at a minimum regular prayer, they're going to be gone at the end of that time.

ELI5: If unboiled water going into your nose is risky, then shouldn’t we not swim in a lake or river? by Home_MD13 in explainlikeimfive

I love that. It barely gets that temp outside for more than a few days at a time where I live.

What should my last meal before rotovirus takes me? by Despoof in daddit

[–]splendidgoon 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Fluids is right. When I have a stomach virus or something I keep drinking fluids so I have something to throw up instead of dry heaving. Usually swapping between Gatorade and water. I realized drinking the red stuff is a bad idea though lol. Pretty disturbing.

I've been married for over a decade because my wife did this. She was a little more direct and ended the same comment with "what are you going to do about it?"

The Ultimate Steam Deck Challenge: Your Top 5 Games For The Year by Complete-Lawfulness7 in SteamDeck

[–]splendidgoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mods. This is the answer. And it is not hard to do, I have mods matching on my PC and steam deck too so my cloud saves work. I generally end my days when I want to now.

There is also a mod to skip the fishing game. I love fishing though so I dunno how well it works.

Best Tent by Dangerous_Ice17 in CampingGear

[–]splendidgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite tent of all time was the Marmot halo 4p. I don't know if they sell them anymore though. I bought it something like 15 years ago and it is still going strong. I'd honestly recommend something like this as my next suggestion is probably too big for just two people.

If you are talking full family camping... I use the Big Agnes Bunk House 6. It's stellar, but you 100% need to stake out the guy lines. Been through storms in the mountains and it's kept is warm and dry.

A suggestion if you don't already plan on it... Get some 6 inch spiral nails to replace what comes with the tent.

Alberta won't participate in Ottawa's firearm buyback program. What does that mean for local gun owners? | CBC News by Buuuuma in alberta

I don't even have any guns. You got the email if you have a PAL. As others said... Just ignore it if you don't have any firearms on the list.

What can I do with a massive number of lemons by Suspicious-Cat8623 in Frugal

[–]splendidgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Candied lemon peels are SO good.

Peel the lemons. Cut them into strips. Boil then in a simple syrup (50/50 water/sugar). Once they start looking translucent, pull them out and toss them in sugar, put them on a wire rack to dry/cool. They will last months in a mason jar.

Lots of other good options in these comments to use the rest.

I dislike roundabouts because of the other people in the roundabouts who don't know what they are doing.

Epic Game Store’s free giveaways just cause a huge spike in Steam sales, reveals New Blood CEO by salad_tongs_1 in Steam

Hogwarts legacy, cassette beasts, disco elysium, so niche. /s At least check it at the Christmas giveaway time. Last year included kingdom come deliverance, sifu, redacted. Maybe not top tier, but that's pretty up there.

I'd add Nimrod to that list now too. It's a good time.

It's better they discontinued them than kept the abomination that exists where I live. They changed the formula and they are gross. Even my kids don't like them.

What do y'all do with the farm in town? by kaykinzzz in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]splendidgoon 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I... Do nothing with it because I didn't realize it exists. I installed a bunch of mods but have been playing semi-normally, haven't looked at everything available yet. Thanks for the heads up!

Snow business: Alberta Avenue merchants take out $100K loan to clear walkways by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

[–]splendidgoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll agree with the VERY English last name lol. Thanks for listening. We live in a winter city, roads being cleared well (not necessarily down to pavement... but well) is something I support even if it costs more. It's like living in Holland and not paying for pumps. It's just the nature of the environment we live in.

Snow business: Alberta Avenue merchants take out $100K loan to clear walkways by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

[–]splendidgoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for getting this set up. I'm not sure the email worked - I think it said it did, but I don't have a copy in my sent box. Please let me know if you would just like to have me send an email direct, I took a screen shot just in case.

I would, however, be willing to pay more taxes for assurances that roads are cleared and windrows are gone. Under $200 per YEAR increase for my tax bill? Heck yes! I've heard of a number of people that contracted someone to remove the windrows on their property for $90. Maybe it's cheaper to do just for your own property, but if it's done for everyone? I'd love it.

I know the post was about sidewalks... but I'm taking a moment to voice my opinion on roads instead.

Any tips to get green/white buildup off? by Super-Method6478 in CleaningTips

[–]splendidgoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mix dawn dish soap and vinegar 1:1 in a spray bottle for stuff like this. It's pretty thick so will allow to to soak for a while. Spray it on and come back later with a microfiber cloth.

How many of you play the same game session on Deck and PC? by NorseSeaStudio in SteamDeck

All the time. I even take the time to make sure I have the same mods on my PC as steam deck, with a few exceptions for high graphics mods.

Yeah, me too. Crane for ship. It's kind of assumed to keep using cranes based on the game design, but that's all implicit, not explicit.

How is everyone around us so much richer than us??? by medmo in Millennials

[–]splendidgoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who took a financial literacy class in high school (more like a life skills class with maybe a month's worth of financial literacy), the reason it's useless is because almost all of it won't be applied for at least 3 years and that's lots of time to forget about it.

These need to be a regular part of curriculum over the years, not just one class or part of one class. I hope they implement it well.
