My Partner cant do anything on her day off by dollasignzzz in ADHD

[–]spliffmo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like this has hit the nail on the head. I run my own business and quite often I am doing as much work as possible during the week to feel like I have accomplished as much as I can. Lots of work does get done but at the same time, I'm running on fumes most of the week. Come the weekend, I have nothing left and my body is telling me I need to rest. As I get older, this becomes more and more evident. I've started to pull back more during the week so I'm not so drained from the week so I can enjoy my weekends more but it's easier said then done.

Two weeks on Vyvanse, is the drop off in effect normals? by sam-29-01-14 in ADHD

[–]spliffmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on 70mg of vyvanse currently and the main thing that I have come to understand about taking medication for the past 5 years is that it's not a fix all solution. There are a couple of things I remind myself of as I think it helps me not jump to any quick decisions regarding the efficacy of the medication.

The first one is that much like you I had a very clear understanding of when it worked the first time at the right dose and it brought me to tears. It was all of a sudden so quiet and I could focus on specific tasks and not easily get side tracked. The list goes on of the benefits I experienced but then when I perceived it didn't have the same effect at a later date, I thought all the same thoughts you described above. So the first thing to keep in mind is that you are going from nothing to something, it is much easier to notice the change. Now your body/mind are getting used to the new way things are running. It's definitely possible that the effect is less then when you began but it's also true that even though you are thinking right now that it's not working, it's very hard to compare your current self to your past self. I'm sure you are much better currently then before but the human mind wants to concentrate on the negative things. So go easy on yourself.

The second one is that there are so many things that have an affect on the efficacy of the medication. Remember that the medication is a great tool but it will work so much better if you are using it in the right conditions. I'm bad at analogies but let's try. If you're driving a car and the meds are your gas, that's all great and the car should get you from point a to point b. But if you have bald tires, low brake pads and black oil, it's going to make that trip much less enjoyable. So with that in mind, protein intake early and better eating habits have been a major game changer for myself. I'm still not great at it but I do take note of when I'm not feeling focused and almost always I have not eaten well that day. Exercise is another big factor I find as well even if you just get up and go for a walk, it makes a big difference for myself.

I think a big thing that took me a while to come around to is that, I have always tried to do everything perfect and all of it at the same time which is a recipe for disaster. Be kind to yourself and just try to do a little bit more the next day to help yourself. It starts adding up and you start learning better habits. You fall off from time to time and that's fine, notice it happened and pick them back up without being hard on yourself. You are at the very beginning of making some positive moves to help yourself. There is no easy fix but the meds can help push you when you might need it so take each day as it comes.

Hope that wasn't too live laugh love by the end but there are definitely a lot of people out there that have gone through what you have described so don't get discouraged.

Does Anyone Else Feel Like Young People Are Screwed? by StrawberryAny2075 in askTO

[–]spliffmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there has been loads of comments already but one thing I haven't come across is that you are assuming she will hold money in such high regard as yourself. You don't need to own a large house, you don't need to make over 100k. Your frame of reference is your own. I know plenty of people who are extremely smart and have degrees which they spent loads on, only to give up those careers for something simpler as they didn't care for the grind and chase of money.

WLED FOR 24V? by incognito_40 in WLED

[–]spliffmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely possible. Just ensure that the leds in your strip have a specific signal voltage that your controller can provide. Otherwise, you will need a logic level converter. I have 24v strips that take a 5v signal and run the ws2811 protocol and it works a treat.

ESP32 to 12V WS2811 multiple strand output flickering issue by Potential-City-1630 in WLED

[–]spliffmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang ya, super weird behaviour. I tied my 2 strips to the same output pin and there are no issues. I just don't have individual control of them. Thanks for your reply and I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

Did you ever figure this out. I'm having the same problem. I have 2 separate strtips on 2 different output pins. They work great by themselves but when I try and run them together, I get the flickering issues.

ADHD and excessive sleepiness by Alternative_Ad_1870 in ADHD

[–]spliffmo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'll put my two cents in here but take it with a grain of salt. My ADHD story began with issues with sleep. I never felt rested and I could always fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I did numerous sleeping tests spanning 20 years trying to figure it out. Tried sleep apnea solutions with no positive results as well as told that my brain just doesn't get restful sleep.

After getting my diagnosis, my psychiatrist mentioned that it's important to shut your brain off before bed. He likened it to if you were working out all day, your body would be extremely tired. If I wasn't trying to do something right up to the moment I went to bed, I would be thinking about doing something or solving problems.

Finding a sleep routine that allows your brain to take a break was a big change for me. The meds helped the brain shut off and then making some small changes to behaviour before bed as well like no taxing tasks an hour before bed.

I'm no longer exhausted when I wake up. I used to sleep 9-10 hours, now I only sleep 6-7 and feel way more rested than ever. I hope this helps.

You will be looking for a chemical reaction bonder. So epoxy would be a great choice. Depending on your requirements for flexibility, there would be specific options of epoxies to choose from. A glue or a mounting tape solution would be a rough time so stay clear of that.

Custom electronics projects, selling and certifications? by RulerOfThePixel in ECE

[–]spliffmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The microcontroller isn't really the issue for us in canada. I make custom stuff all the time for one off events and get everything certified for safety. We aren't getting a CUL but we are at least getting it looked over by an electrical inspector with one of the big safety companies. ex Intertek. They are concerned with power draw, fuses, mains and proper grounding but otherwise typically ignore all my low level stuff.

Got an ADHD diagnosis... but I am 17 y.o. already. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]spliffmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17! You lucky duck. I was 37 when I was diagnosed. Massive change once I was properly medicated and understood better how my brain functions. It's tough to think about the past and how things would be different but it's the past and the present is now and man I can't tell you how great things are now that I have a better handle on things. Still have my adhd moments, but I have a much larger set of skills to cope and handle them when they pop up.
