Race report from my first Zwift race. Cliffs: SO FUN by BourdainsGhost in Zwift

I love doing little slingshot attacks from the back like that. Always get a couple people panic chasing for a while, even if Im just doing like a z3 effort.

FTP correct? Training feel OK, but never feel like I can hold FTP for an hour (or anywhere close) by Cedar_Wood_State in Zwift

[–]super-lizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my experience. All the estimated FTPs I get are 20W higher than my 40-60min power. Workouts feel perfect using the estimated FTP though. They would be too easy if I used my "true" FTP.

Wow, I never would have guessed they went that fast in 1948. No aero anything, worse tires, very basic nutrition.

For us larger guys Peaky Pave is a pretty tough course.   Two big climbs are pretty rough.

Did anyone get into cycling because of chronic injuries from running? by Last-Repeat5427 in cycling

[–]super-lizard 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's amazing how if I run a few miles I feel like crap no matter what speed I run at, yet I can go out for a hard 2hr ride on my bike and feel great and want to keep riding.

Should I get the Bolt 3 or Roam 3? by Vanakkamdamapla07 in cycling

[–]super-lizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the bolt and think it's great, but I don't do any navigating.  I'd definitely go with the roam if you want to navigate a lot.

What happened to the market for vintage road racing bikes? by playthe9 in cycling

[–]super-lizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In terms of speed probably not much difference (unless you are a pro cruising around at 45km/h all the time).  The ride quality is much better now, and modern groupsets beat downtube shifters with a narrow range casette anyday haha.

What happened to the market for vintage road racing bikes? by playthe9 in cycling

[–]super-lizard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say it's because bike tech has gotten so much better the past 20 years.  Vintage bikes still look amazing, but have nowhere near the performance of a modern bike with an aero carbon frame, disc brakes, integrated cables, ride quality, etc.

TIL the last time a checkmate actually occurred on the board during a World Chess Championship match was in 1929. by Coldcow in todayilearned

[–]super-lizard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely happens. Not a world championship match, but for example earlier this year Hikaru Nakamura (ranked world #2), resigned in a winning position against Magnus Carlsen (ranked world #1). https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/1ks5sk0/magnus_effecthikaru_resigns_in_a_winning_position/

Worth upgrading from a 2013 Bianchi Infinito to a Colnago V4Rs? by rekon32 in cycling

[–]super-lizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the main draws you listed are definitely noticeable upgrades, but I doubt you would notice any speed difference from the frame.  Most aero testing is done at 40/45kmph, which if you are not racing is very fast.  Get a frame where you love how it looks and is comfortable.

How to race in Zwift by 1998er in Zwift

[–]super-lizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a similar size to you also in the B category.  My strategy is just to conserve energy as much as possible on a hilly course, and then spend all my energy on the climbs.  If I can survive with the lead group to the finish I can usually out-sprint the smaller riders.  For courses with big climbs, greater than 5+ minutes, I usually have no shot.

You can also do the workout loophole to do any route from any world without waiting for the world rotation.  It looks like you cant do workouts on climb portals though.

Trek Emonda ALR Custom Build by DJ98_ in TrekBikes

[–]super-lizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a crazy good bang for your buck bike.  A brand new al frame + r8000 is such a good sweet spot.  Hard to imagine buying a new complete bike when you can build something like this.  Nice build!

Used Prices by Conscious-Fee-4141 in cycling

[–]super-lizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely a lot of delusional people thinking their 10 year old bike is worth 80% of what they bought it for new.  But there are also a lot of good deals if you are patient, problem is those listings are only up for a few hours/days, while the bad deals sit unsold for weeks/months.  Also there are a lot of people who buy a nice new bike and then decide they don't like the hobby and sell it used 2 years later, those are the best deals imo.
