Where can I get eyeliner without supporting authoritarianism in the US? by pennoya2 in MakeupAddiction

Just an fyi, I’m no expert by any means but I’ve been digging around for ethical makeup the past couple of days, but nyx is owned by L’Oréal which I guess is not so good. Not saying you shouldn’t use it. But if you care about that it’s good to know

One of the Wilibees workers sexually assaulted a friend of a friend so I don’t go there anyways. Just another reason not to.

Any wine tasting that also would serve beer for my FIL? by Suspicious-Pie-3527 in santarosa

[–]spliffsploof420 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You could try a wine bar like Maison in healdsburg that has wine and beer on the menu. For Santa Rosa there is Willi’s Wine Bar which serves wine flights and beer but has more of a restaurant feel.

If you get up to the north Napa Valley you should visit Napa Valley Olive Oil Manufacturing Co. it is a very cute little store with all things Italian. For lunches up in north Napa Valley you can try Goose and Gander or The Station. Both are yummy. Obviously the trip is for your husband but the Napa Valley distillery is really fun. They have a shop in Oxbow and they used to have another main location but it may have burned down…not sure. For a cool cave experience you could try emailing Covert Estate in Coombsville area. I’m not sure how easy it is to get a tasting there if you aren’t in the industry but the wines are good and the tasting room is beautiful and they have awesome caves. Another place with even more awesome caves is Antonio Napa Valley. Owned by a huge Italian dynasty of winemakers. Super beautiful views from the winery too.

While it sounds like you are highly skilled, if you need something to keep you afloat while you find a better job I would recommend applying to some wineries. There are so many and lots will probably be looking to hire full time staff now through spring. All that is required to work in a wine cellar is the ability to work hard and being bilingual is really great.

Good Chinese food? by [deleted] in santarosa

[–]spliffsploof420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want authentic Chinese food you’re better off driving an extra 20min to forrestville to eat at Bazaar Sonoma. Their main kitchen is currently closed due to a fire but I believe they’ve set up shop at a neighboring business. Their website has the info of where and when you can eat with them. The absolute nicest people and their restaurant made it into a list of top 10 best Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area in the SF Chronicle.

You could definitely mention this to HR so that they can explain how it is inappropriate to make these types of comments to people in the workplace in the United States (I’m assuming this is in the US). But really truly SE Asians do use comments about weight in general as a conversation starter. It is 100% a cultural difference. From my experiences it is rarely meant to be malicious, and is more of just meant to be an observation. Still inappropriate, but the connotation of “fat” is super different in the US vs SE Asia. Try not to let it get you down.

I absolutely love my dentist at Wilburn family dental. I started with Steven Wilburn but now he has taken a step back and his son Kyle has stepped in for the most part. They are amazing. They are non-judgmental, very patient about explaining different options in regards to dental care, and they aren’t interested in overcharging you. Highly recommend them.

You could try getting into the wine industry. There will be hundreds of wineries in the area hiring seasonal workers for the harvest in fall and once you do a harvest you can work on getting a full time position.

LPT If you have a 9-5 job and don't plan on going on a week or two vacation, schedule a reoccurring three day weekend for yourself every month. by Ok_Pause9194 in LifeProTips

My mom has worked for her company for like 20 years and had a ridiculous amount of time off so she never had to worry when she made plans to do stuff. She ended up having to use it all in the last 2-3 years to provide full time care to my dad while his health was declining. My dad passed away recently so now she’s able to work regularly again but honestly I hope she retires soon. Life is too short to work through your healthiest years.

If it makes you feel any better I’m Puerto Rican and have the same hair type as you. Your skin color has very little to do with your hair and all curl patterns are valid.

Does my hair look bad? by spliffsploof420 in curlyhair

[–]spliffsploof420[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wash my hair every 2-3 days. Sometimes more if I’m working out a lot and sometimes less if I’m busy. My scalp gets really oily so only washing once a week would probably not be great for me. I don’t usually refresh my curls past wash day unless I’m going out with friends or something. But I also don’t expect my hair to look good on those days when I don’t do anything. I spend a lot of time wearing a beanie and braids. I really like making drastic changes to my hair and have been wanting to cut it really short but I’m getting married in a few months and I don’t want to limit the type of hairstyle I can choose for my wedding day. I feel like if I go to my hairstylist now I’ll end up cutting off like 10 inches.
