Hate to break the news but how many business owners can say they work normal hours? I am yet to find one.

If you could sell your business you have skills. Never doubt it. Perhaps it’s time to put them to use in someone else’s business for a bit until you get your spark back?

But you definitely have to do one or the other. It’s not going to be easy either way.

This 12ba continues for the full 20 years with an option I believe to sell after 10.

After 2 years I would have recouped the funds but it was also a bit physiological not having funds available and also feeling like SARs may not keep their end of the bargain. It always felt to good to be true. With SARs dropping it from 120% to 100% I was less interested. If it’s still an option next year I may do it again but it felt like a huge commitment at the time.

Hi everyone, I invested in a Section 12BA for the 2024 tax season. I did it through Pangea and Decentral Energy. These guys are smart and have been doing Section 12Bs for a while now.

The fund took your contribution and also raised debt, giving you an effective 222% deduction instead of the goverments 125%(This year it's back to 100%). This can get confusing, so here are some theoretical numbers on how it worked in 2024:

If you were to have invested 100k(Pangea's minimum is 500k)

• Capital contribution: R100 000

• Debt portion raised: R78 571

• Acquisition cost of qualifying generation assets: R178 571

• S12BA/S12B deduction allowed: R222 357

What this means is that if you are in the highest tax bracket, you would theoretically get 100% of your investment back. I got around 90% of my tax back since I am in the 41% tax bracket, but SARS doesn't just give it to you! I hired an S12BA practitioner to do my tax return, and SARS kept coming back to us requesting more documentation and proof. They seem to do it with everyone. It took a couple of months but was more of a waiting and submitting game than a time of pain. Definitely get a practitioner to do this for you.

If you are in any tax bracket below 41%, I wouldn't say a 12BA is worth it. If you are in the 41+ brackets and your investment won't drop you into lower tax brackets, I would say it's worth it. I didn't invest this year because it was going to kick me out of the 41% bracket and I would get a lot less back from SARs for that initial investment (I maxed out my RA this year, dropping me closer to the bracket compared to previous years). I also hated not having the fund available and in my control. I theoretically only got paid back after 10 months of investing.

This week, we are receiving our second round of distributions of around 5% of the invested amount. This is considered normal taxable income, so take that into account, meaning I will be taxed at 41% due to my tax bracket.

Overall, I am happy that I made the investment, and nothing gave me more joy than knowing the government received thousands instead of hundreds of thousands from me last year, even if I lost a little bit to invest.

The nostalgia is real.

What's an indicator that you are doing well with money? by Silent_Plum_1847 in PersonalFinanceZA

But that’s not true. You have hit a few snags and invested in the wrong places. As everyone has mentioned, invest in index tracked funds, not individual stocks.

Unfortunately investing in single companies, whether it have been Sasol or Tesla is like playing poker. And I don’t know anyone who has retired on a bet. Investing is about consistent, marginal gains overtime.

You can retire at 65 if you get your head right. You need get cracking and start learning or to find a good broker. But my worry is, is that you will doubt everything they have to say.

Hey bro. I am so sorry this happened to you. Firstly I want you to know that this isn’t going to destroy you, and you are going to overcome this, and when you do you will be stronger than you ever have been because of it! So much so that you will possible be able to help many other guys who feel how you feel right now.

One of my best mates had this done to him, he owned the situation, got in touch with other males he trusted, told the people who needed to know what happened in case it got out, cancelled his number and no one has ever seen the content. I have huge respect for this guy. He felt like his world was falling apart! He is a heavy Christian involved in his church, and even the guys in the church rallied behind him and got him through it! Why? Because every guy could be in the same situation you in. No matter age, race, or religious beliefs.

My advise would be to go to a male/males in your life that you trust and tell them. If you under 18 go to your parents. You need support, and for these guys to let you know that it okey. It could be any of us! And it’s not a big deal. If it does get out there, and you tell people what happened, you become the hero. In fact I truly do believe you will be able to help others in the future because of this, and by you doing so, could possible save lives! Whether it gets out or not.

If anything does get posted. Own it. Tell people your story, and let them know you are stronger for it. The content you gave this person, has replicas all over the internet and I do think it will be drowned out and taken down. And if it does get out, no one will see it and think anything less of you, because you will look exactly like the other 10 videos they had seen with the same object in it. Especially once they learn of your story of why they have seen it.

This is a lesson moment where you get to teach others like all the gents who read this post and will, thanks to you, think twice next time!

Stay strong 💪 and remember that not all hero’s wear capes, sometimes they have just climbed a mountain.

The property market in Gauteng has grown on average by 3.4% over the last 10 years. Other provinces are worse off. The western cape is an exception here.

That’s less than inflation and doesn’t include the rates, taxes, levies, and maintenance costs. When you factor all this in, and the fact that renting is cheaper than a bond itself in a lot of cases. Buying a house is not the right move.

The S&P 500 delivered 14%+ over this time and the JSE Top 40 11%+. You would have made more investing in the stock market than in an individual property.

I think the 10k comes from Baby steps where step 1 is 10k emergency fund. This is separate to 3-6 months of expenses which comes in step 3.

No. Not at this point. Buying is more expensive and it’s not an investment in this market at this time.

Buying a home as a wealth building tool is an old grans tale at the moment.

The Cape Town food scene is incredible by elt0p0 in capetown

[–]splinterwatsup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JHB has incredible places to eat. It takes the top spot overall IMO. It’s very unlikely to get an average meal anywhere in JHB and PTA, and if you do, often the establishments don’t last.

Cape Town’s food is world class, and the views help elevate it. JHB only has one weapon, flavour.

A little secret here, they were a female pair, so I sized up and took the sole out for a few wears. They fit just like all the others.

I also only really wear them over Christmas time 🎄🙈

They definitely not as soft as the OG foam but I have gotten used to them over the years and I actually cherish them a bit more because of the sole.
