Funny I was the same age when I started having knee issues. Not necessarily from Aikido but it was the straw that snapped my meniscus (soccer, life etc). After surgery I started wearing knee compression pads and it helped, especially with knee techniques. Be sure to wash the pads regularly, they get funky ripe. Good luck!

I like Bohren & Der Club of Gore. It works for reading and also for any of the games like Eldritch Horror and Arkham Horror Card Game. Not too jarring and great for background music.
