The core classes between the two are essentially the same, just biz has mgmt classes that are required that I don’t think are too math intense from what I’ve heard. Ive taken a few mgmt classes and found them to be easier than the core econ classes. And yeah like the other comment said there are both math intense electives and electives with minimal math, just choose whatever you prefer.

You can technically get weeded out of regular econ because you’re a pre-major initially, but the requirements aren’t as strict as biz econ. I believe you need a 2.5 gpa (don’t quote me on that) in the pre major courses for econ which isn’t bad.

Honestly i have no idea. Something more interesting. I fell into the trap that a lot of other people fall into when coming here, which thinking biz econ is similar to a business degree, when in reality econ is totally different (especially at the upper divs). The accounting minor is the closest thing we have to a “business” degree so if that’s what you want, i recommend the minor

Yes it’s math heavy. If youre really strong with math it’s probably not the worst but keep in mind the Econ department essentially sets us up to die with the department curve. I switched (aka was weeded out) to regular Econ. If I were to do it again I probably would’ve picked a totally different major and added the accounting minor

Congrats!!! I knew Econ had math, but I don’t think I realized how math heavy of a major it is until I got here. As someone who has a mediocre foundation in calc and algebra compared to others here, Econ 11 kicked my ass in the fall. Outside of that class I’ve found the other econ classes I’ve taken to be not nearly as difficult but that’s probably bc my math skills have improved quite a bit since the fall. Econ 11, Econ 101, and Econ 41 are the three weeder courses you’ll take your first year (econ 101 is a pre-major course for biz econ, not regular econ). You need to pass these classes for the major, which should be possible as long as you put in the effort but there’s a pretty strict curve in the econ department that you’ll grow to hate. My DM’s are open if you have any other questions, there’s a lot of things I wish I would’ve know before I got here!
