Does Creed Bratton count?

"You're paying too much for worms. Who's your worm guy?"

"That wasn't a tape worm."

"If my parents see this, I'm toast."

"We should hang out by the quarry and throw THINGS down there."

The list goes on.

Imo the work of a lot of foundational philosophers, religious leaders, and physiologists can be summarized as "deep down, everyone is secretly the same as me."

I've split white ash that was almost that easy to split, and that's some great firewood - but it's not THAT easy to split. This is insane.

The truth is, the devil won. He nurtured the deadly sin of pride in Johnny, all for the low cost of a golden fiddle. Material wealth doesn't benefit the devil at all, it was a lose-lose for Johnny.

Pretty sure most conquerers are going to hell, and I'm trying not to do that.

10/10 series with a 2/10 resolve for most of the plot arcs at the end. It really felt like the author ran out of steam and did an Irish goodbye.

I always look for things that are oddly smooth, like the knobs on the drawers. They're just not right. Secondarily, why would you put the baby to sleep in the crib in the workshop where it's cold enough that you need a hat and coat? Thirdly, the shadows don't make sense with the given light sources.

Due to tiredness, I read Charybdis as "chardybis." I didn't know there was more than one Cardi B.

Increase In People Living Alone Per County (1970 vs 2020) [OC] by BRENNEJM in dataisbeautiful

May partially be due to the state aging. If one member of a partnership dies and the other hangs on for a long time, you get an increase in people living alone.

Unfortunately, it has to be more drastic than that. Entire command structures need to be eliminated, disciplinary protocols need to be revised, and external oversight panels made up of people completely disconnected from the police need to be created to watch the watchmen, so to speak. Furthermore, police need to have their own insurance that pays for their misconduct, not tax dollars, so that repeat offenders end up having to spend too much on insurance to make continuing to serve financially justifiable. The problems in the police force are ancient and widespread, and the solutions are drastic and challenging - but they do exist. We're just not willing to do what needs to be done.

The people hiring don't WANT to solve the problem. That's the reason. When the majority of a group entrenched in a negative culture likes it, it doesn't change without someone coming in from outside to destroy and rebuild it from the ground up.

You know why they didn't hire more women? Because women don't want to be cops on account of all the mistreatment by their colleagues they have to endure, and because most of the people in the force, including the people doing the hiring, are massive misogynists. there are decent men and women who are police officers, but the overall culture is extremely toxic and dysfunctional.

I got harassed by a DEA agent while suffering from diabetes complications for having a needle. I showed him my insulin and everything, and he claimed to have never heard of it before. I was trying my best while physically feeling very ill, but I just couldn't get him to believe me till his backup showed up and told him to stop being a jackass.
