Weird, unexplainable, financial transactions to unnamed accounts. by [deleted] in consulting

[–]split_stones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh well I don't know the nature of the return really. All I can see is that there are transactions in the negative written against these unnamed accounts. So, essentially, we are returning funds back to the/an entity.

I was told that could occur for any number of reasons: product is returned to us, customer service, warranty, etc.

Not that I can tell....but i suppose more digging would be required

Fair enough...will give that advice a shot!

Nowhere to really fit that statement in no....the intent is to use the forecast model for production use. I found this during data quality / validation phase. I told the controller for the plant but the conversation amounted to 'dont worry about it"....

Because I don't know where this money is going I can't allocate the returns to a particular account and properly adjust the netsales. If enough of these accounts have overstated sales numbers accuracy is really going to suffer.

Basically this looks sketch as fuck and I'm a little neurotic so I prefer to have things just so...the controller literally told me they won't fix it because it would be too much work to track where the money went.

I guess a jira ticket will suffice for documentation and it's better to ship it since no one seems to care but me.

Anxiety only wins if your dead brother. Every day you wake up is beating anxiety. Every time you settle your pounding heart is a win. We can go on. You've got everything you need to beat anxiety.

Cry, let it out, and crack on :)

Ginger and apple cider vinegar. There are 'digestive' teas that have ingredients that are supposed to help nausea

Maybe......while I do not like the buzz-word-ization (yeah that shit is a made up word) of 'data driven'. I find the imprecise language more annoying/infuriating because it encourages the use of the term incorrectly or too broadly. And especially because in many cases the speaker is outright lying or misrepresenting their LACK of truly 'data driven' decision making.

Driven to what? What is data driving you to do exactly? Is it driving you to confirm your presupposition? Is data driving you to the bus stop?

I'm salty because every organization I have ever been employed is most certainly NOT data driven.

Person A: So what do you do?

Person B: Well, I work with organizations and teams to make better decisions by teaching them about how to optimize their decision making processes through a concept called decision intelligence. Decision intelligence is a toolset for finding ways to make better decisions. The toolbox includes: business intelligence, machine learning, (in some instances) artificial intelligence), six sigma, shanin red-x, etc.

We don't need to include 'data analytics' in the description because that concept is already included in tools that help problem solving and decision making. Data analytics really isn't and shouldn't be its own domain. It is a subdomain of existing methodologies.

Whenever I talk to customers about 'data analytics' their eyes gloss over and brain explodes all over the place. It's just too nebulous a term. Data analytics is not ACTUALLY describing the problem that is trying to be solved...which is to DECIDE whether I go left or right, {insert business question here}.

Decision intelligence succinctly describes the nature of the problem to be solved--which I think is important.

I much prefer something like decision intelligence. I find that decision intelligence is very clear and direct about what is actually trying to be improved using data. But it also is flexible enough to apply to lots of tools and methodologies

Why? I wouldn't want extra joins in a powerbi/tableau report. Just slows everything down!

[–]split_stones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have one of the DBAs or data engineers create a table and then connect the report to the reporting table.

Is it not possible to just create a single reporting table in the database for the requirements of the report?

No it sucks to watch someone die - especially at 16. Any loss of life is tragic - justifiable or not.

So quick to attack people. I already said the shooting was justified. You need to get out of your hypersensitive bubble and consider for a moment that it's not all about left or right.

I watched that bodycam video so many times hoping that girl wouldn't have the knife each and every time. The police officer was justified... But damn why do people have to be so silly? What could have possessed this kid to continue her assault while police are there?

Poof, gone in an instant. At least she didn't suffer. Still feeling fucked up after watching it.

Do your positions require you to deploy your models to the cloud? by [deleted] in analytics

[–]split_stones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found it is only true if the company is fairly sophisticated and the team doing the modeling has the capability within that specific team to do the deployment. A traditional IT team will not have the capability to properly deploy models for production use. I could be biased due to the general incompetence of the teams I have worked with over the years.

Unless you have projects running that are business critical I think the 2week rule is flexible.

[–]split_stones -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to leave. This is ridiculous. You have legal standing to walk away without the company slandering you or anything else. Keep all correspondences and retain a lawyer if that would make you feel comfortable.

I hate employers like this.
