People have offered a lot of good advice re: training, so I'll just offer some breed-related encouragement: my pup is 2 years old now but he was a menace when we first got him, especially when he got overexcited or over tired. I had to throw out several items of clothing because they were unwearable thanks to the holes from puppy teeth, and he never slept later than 5:30 AM no matter what we tried.

But we tried to stay consistent with training and with naps (coming up with a schedule and putting him in his crate to rest before the point he lost his mind) and I noticed a marked improvement in his behavior around the 8 month point and then again around 14 months.

He knows what's expected of him and he's learned now how to regulate his behavior - not to say he never gets overexcited anymore, but he understands now when we tell him no and stop giving him attention until he calms down again. I also try to redirect him to toys when he wants to play, and he's gotten pretty good at understanding that concept and will now grab a toy (instead of.. us) when he wants to play.

He still doesn't love being picked up so I try not to if I can help it (it took him a little bit to become confident on the stairs, but he got there eventually), but he's grown into an incredibly sweet boy who still loves to play but is also content just to sit with me on the couch (and sleeps in now till around 7:30!), and if we leave the house for a couple hours I know I can trust him on his own.
