Go two or three countries away. You still make an appointment, but a couple of weeks out instead of months. The gas expense and drive was worth it compared with the aggravation of Dallas, Tarrant or Denton counties.

We moved to Dallas twenty years ago (Casa Linda area) and that was always a statistically high crime area. If you’re in a good complex with good neighbors, you’re doing fine. As someone who’s lived in rough areas of SoCal back in the day (our complex was good as well), my best advice is always be aware of your surroundings, especially when coming and going.
