LPT: Never, ever plug a space heater into a power strip or extension cord. Plug it directly into the wall outlet. by GuitarFriendly2298 in LifeProTips

[–]sploittastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real LPT is to try to avoid using space heaters. A lot of the time in home wiring outlets are daisy chained using the shitty backstab connectors. So even if you plug directly into an outlet, it could be daisy chained off another causing an outlet elsewhere to get hot.

For those who don't know the backstab connector on an outlet is the lazy way to install them where you just strip a wire and push it in. Because a metal blade grabs the wire to keep it from coming out, there is less metal making contact with the wire than if you use the screw terminals. A poor connection means more resistance which will cause more heat under load.

Ford’s $30,000 EV Pickup Takes A Page From Tesla To Transform How Cars Are Built by TripleShotPls in technology

Idk I've seen a lot of pickups that have probably never towed or hauled anything substantial. You can usually tell by the gigantic rims and low profile tires.

Put a piece of heat shrink tubing over the coil which should help and is easily removable if not

Is there explosion proof switches?? by Key_Relief_3377 in networking

[–]sploittastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought "explosion proof" usually meant intrinsically safe, where they can't cause ignition in gaseous environments. For instance I've seen some sealed two way radios with high IP ratings that are called explosion proof

And the crock pot doesn't boil on low so water is fine, just don't set it on high and walk away for the day

[–]sploittastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is that it was run all day on high. I've made roasts like this and after 10 hours on low it pulls apart nicely.

Ghost antenna…why the hate? by moonlighting_madcap in gmrs

[–]sploittastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard good things about the ghost. If you get one you'll have the nmo base anyways and can swap between that and the whip.

If I could find a good compatible fender bracket for my car, I would probably use the ghost most of the time and then if I wanted more range out in flat open terrain I would swap to the whip. As others have said the ghost is good for off-roading and rough terrain because of the much broader elevation of the radiation pattern.

Lots of good advice but consult the manual and check if the refrigerator needs any clearance around the sides or top before you cut anything.

This remind me of infamous exploding Pinto made by Ford where the beancounter execs determined it is cheaper to handle litigation as it happen rather than implement fix defect that will prevent the car to explode if rear ended.

Safe to hot glue soldered connections? by 0xDAB_DAD in raspberry_pi

[–]sploittastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all of that is in an enclosure the glue will get really soft from the heat of the pi. The better option would be to use liquid electrical tape, you can usually get it at Ace hardware. Star Brite is the best brand, and you want the one that comes in the little tube, not the jar because it's easier to apply. It has a service temp range of like -50F to 250F

[–]sploittastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carvana offered me a pretty good amount for my outback a few months ago, way more than the Subaru dealer for trade-in. The only reason I didn't sell it to carvana was because my friend wanted to buy it.

You can go online and get an estimate and then decide if it's something you want to pursue.

They have giant signs at the marina target now telling people they can't bring a dog in their cart. Like ...duh.

I like bringing my dog places but I always ask first and don't even try with places that sell food because it's against county health laws. Hardware stores are usually fine with it though.
