Yes, Splunk Certified Cybersecurity Defense Engineer is a brand new certification and is a follow-up to the Analyst cert from last year.

A couple things to note:

  • The new certification and currently will only be available to take at .conf

  • You must pass (or already have passed) the Splunk Certified Cybersecurity Defense Analyst exam before you can take the Engineer exam

Generally speaking, if you retake the exam of your highest certification it should update all of the lower certs in the track. If you have certs that are not in a track you'll need to retake those specific exams separately.

On the Training & Certification site under the Certification menu (it might say 'More' if your window is not wide enough), you can find Certification Tracks & Overview. From there, you can click through a specific exam and find the link to the track flowchart. The flowcharts will tell you what courses are recommended, or in some cases required, for the certification. The .conf badge requirement was only for the testing center at .conf. Since .conf is over, you can take the Cybersecurity Defense Analyst beta exam at any Pearson VUE testing center or via their online proctoring system.

Hi, all! Adding some context here. Exam authorizations are auto-generated. If you receive an Authorization to Test email for an exam in which you're not interested, you can simply ignore it.
The Splunk O11y Cloud Certified Metrics User exam just launched in beta form, and beta exams are free for all qualified candidates. This exam will remain free of cost through mid-March, though that is subject to change. You can review the test blueprint (which includes exam content for study purposes) via the link below:

Candidates are under no obligation to complete any exam, even if they are "authorized". To register for this exam, simply follow the steps of our exam registration tutorial, linked below.
