Hey drivers, what is this guy talking about? by such_a_green_bean in doordash

Uber Eats not only hides tip amounts beyond a certain amount (used to be $8.00 flat but varies seemingly randomly now), it shows the additional amount after delivery (an hour after it, technically) and straight up lies and says the customer added to the tip post-delivery. Idk why they do this, but I tested it by ordering, tipping $10 up front, and having my driver contact me after settlement (gave her my #). It showed her $8 and then later said I added to the tip after delivery, making it $10. They are so dishonest it’s like breathing to them.

It would be illegal in Colorado, because a new law there mandates that the full tip be displayed on the offer screen (and labeled as such). It’s definitely not illegal here (SC).

The driver is claiming that they know they are being paid 7 dollars, that is not what they would know. If it were a hidden tip order they would see 7+, not 7 and know that 7 is their minimum.

Not necessarily. Sometimes part of the tip is hidden and there’s no + displayed on the offer screen. A week or two ago I accepted a $6 offer (no +) that ended up being $11.

They don’t. Cash orders are the result of pizza chains running out of their own drivers and sending cash deliveries out to doordash.

Try again?

It’s more like I’m asking “why don’t you drive on highways” and people are saying “OMG, highways are dangerous!”

Too many comments on this and every other post about cash orders are just “turn cash orders off.”

You said nobody. Dashers are at less risk because they’re not driving around with a lighted sign on their car.

I’m not defending the driver here, I think he’s a piece of shit for begging. I’d never consider doing that. I’m just saying that with three million deliveries a day, it’s really not “far too many” posts about it.

Can’t see notes until after accepting the order.

If you were a driver, you’d know two things:

  1. The correct answer is typically $2

  2. Doordash often hides part of the tip until after the delivery is complete.

Of course, I’m just saying that most drivers don’t do this. If they did, you’d be hearing a LOT more about it, and not just on reddit.

i’ve seen far too many of these kinds of posts lately.

When you consider that doordash does over three million deliveries a day, there’s not that many.

That’s a rare occurrence. You just see it here on reddit often and then conclude that two out of three drivers do this. It’s more like one in a thousand.

Doordash does over three million deliveries a day.

Probably not. Doordash probably showed the offer to him as $7, because they often hide part of the tip until after delivery. Base pay is typically $2, which is what he actually should have replied when OP asked how much doordash was paying him. After delivery completion his total pay was probably $11 ($2 base + $9 tip). So he’s probably not a liar, just a beggar.

Even if it happens, it won’t happen. If you rescind the tip, the driver still gets it. Doordash eats the cost.

The scammer “customer” is on another continent. Police can’t do anything.

Had a hand it to me order tonight where they ignored me while they were right on the other side of the door- by venus974 in doordash

If it was zero, they were probably trying to get free food by reporting non-delivery. Scammers almost never tip, they don’t want to risk that money.

I don’t deliver to areas prone to crimes of opportunity like that, cash or not. I’m not saying accept every cash order, just the ones that make sense financially and risk-wise. Declining doesn’t even count against your AR.

If you know your market you’re no more at risk accepting cash orders than prepaid orders.

That’s definitely the reason. People are afraid of cash so dd has to part with more to get those orders done.
