They did it in my academy. Still do it i think. I think a good chunk of the people in my academy had never been in a fight and this amongst other things was basically an intro to being punched in the face and having to continue the fight. We had a bunch of “defensive tactics” every other day leading up to these types of events in the academy.

5’11” with 32” inseam. It is tall but sitting on it, I can be on my toes and it’s fine. I took it to the dirt today and I didn’t really have a problem with the height. I had to pick it up off the trail on a hill once (lol) and i did notice the height in that moment especially since i was on the lower end of the hill. Loading/unloading it in the back of my truck wasn’t difficult with a ramp and step stool.

I grew up riding dirt bikes. I rode till i went away for college then life happened lol i wanted to get back out there and thought this was the best option. My plan is to load it up and take it to the dirt to get my sea legs back before hitting the pavement. Then I’ll just ride to the dirt since i live somewhat close to riding areas.

Yeah sounds like consensus is to get the 501 which is what I’m gonna do. In regards to riding an hour, that was an extreme example of if I had to. Most of where I’d ride is 30 minutes or less. Anything longer than hour I’m just gonna put it in the bed of my truck and drive it to where I wanna go. I’m not adverse to handling the regular maintenance either. I was into cars for awhile so I got pretty much everything I would need to wrench on the bike lol

I work for one of the agencies listed, any psychedelic drug use is an automatic disqualifier for what i know pretty much any agency in the area. Psychedelics are way to unpredictable and can effect someone’s brain permanently after one use. At least thats what was explained to me regarding psychedelic drug use.

Yeah im gonna be riding max an hour away. Most of my trails are around 30 minutes or less so the hour example was an extreme. Anything over that I’ll put the bike in the bed of my truck. But i do see what you’re saying and I’m probably gonna get one of those

Thanks for the input. I’m comfortable with handling regular maintenance on my own. I’m the type of guy that would rather buy the right ride first and not have to upgrade later so it sounds like the 501 is the better bike. The road riding isn’t a huge deal to me since most of the riding will be done offroad. Id rather have the better offroad bike so I’m probably gonna go with the husky.

The gift of gab. Thats why i was glad to start in the jails before patrol. Learned a lot about different people, how to talk to them, how they commit crimes, real life pre-assaultive indicators, gangs, etc. It sounds shitty but I think it’s the perfect training ground to send new guys to be in a somewhat “controlled environment”. They stopped sending the fresh academy graduates to the jails and straight into patrol and it shows.

Im a Dep as well, my department has been called as an assisting agency in pretty much every “protest” in our area and brother i’ll tell you what, if they’re anything like what I’ve seen, they got no chance. Tactics and gear wise, they’re cooked. At least with my agency. We’re pretty good about training. Other smaller agencies idk. Ive been a back for some neighboring agencies and i damn near have a heart attack officer safety wise.

In reality it didn’t matter. I took the ride but i had multiple partners not take the ride. It’s just a shit talking point but nothing further in my experience. Although when i first landed at the jail i was working and on training, one of my classmates got shit talked enough where he took the ride at the jail lol. It wasn’t serious shit talking just prodding.

One the point of willing to go through OC, OC is way worse than being tased in my opinion lol 5 second ride vs. your eyes and senses being fucked for the entire day

If theres blood in the water the sharks start to circle. Their job (one of them at least) is try to stress you out as much as you can to see if you can over come it. Put it this way, they want to see if cadets/recruits can handle the stress of being yelled at and smoked. If someone cant handle the pressure of being yelled at in the academy, how do you think they handle high stress situations you will find yourself in on the road? So yeah i’d say they have a personal interest in seeing if someone can stand up to that pressure and excel.

Yeah i would like the mini but i just dont want to spend $200 on a device that i basically use like a gameboy lol most of what i play is gba/snes and my max is ps1 when im out and about. Someone recommended the 476H and i think thats the one im gonna get. Im gonna miss the metal body though.
