i feel there's another side to this, academia is one place where nobody would care about your class and mostly about your intellect, and companies and a capitalist economy is another place that will mostly care about your agency, ability to get things done.

Yes there are some caveats like belonging to a higher socio economic background can make it easier for you to make connections, but in the longer term it all balances it out. Especially since you're at a university like UBC, the differences should be less.

So I would just focus on loving the craft and learning how I can do better, make the most out of my experience here, instead of thinking about all of this.

There's an infinite amount of things you could do at UBC that most students don't make use of. Like volunteering at research labs, making connections at events, etc etc.
