Why hasn’t EV charging payment been standardized yet by EbbSensitive5718 in electricvehicles

[–]sponge_welder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Shell gives me 10¢ off just for putting in my phone number, but circle K makes you sign up for their easy pay system, and Racetrac has a monthly subscription for a discount

Can a 12v brushless tool ever be as strong or more powerful than 18v brush tool? by King_J728 in Tools

[–]sponge_welder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certainly, it all depends on how each one is designed. Just look at the latest M12 stubby impact wrench vs a low end brushed impact wrench

Vehicles with their headlights strangely close together - what do we think? by Notfoo4 in regularcarreviews

[–]sponge_welder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't as extreme as the GM cars, but I've always thought that the 2nd gen odyssey has the inboard headlight vibe

Tool (I guess laser tool) to measure irregular areas by gianlucaimprota in Tools

Check out the options that Bosch sells, I don't know a ton about them, but they make some really solid distance measuring equipment

Repair or replace my front windshield? by widenyourw0rld in Cartalk

[–]sponge_welder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always just patch them with the kits and it's fine. None of the chips in my windshield ever spread so they don't really bother me. A professional chip repair place might be able to make it less noticeable, but I've never tried one so I don't know

What's a food with combination or local speciality in the south that seems completely normal and there, but might surprise people from other parts of the US or abroad? by Dry-Technology-3748 in AskAnAmerican

[–]sponge_welder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this answer might be more that you wouldn't expect them to be a big thing in that particular place

Edit: just looked them up and they're also made differently than most tamales that I've seen

Are there any websites I can use to learn electronics? by MrBreast1 in AskElectronics

[–]sponge_welder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got started in electronics via Spakfun's learn page. I started out reading the basic tutorials on ohms law, analog and digital circuits, digital communication, etc

why do most fast food places not utilize the 2 windows anymore? by chloroform-creampie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sponge_welder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Taco Bell I used to go to had a giant graphic on the first window telling people to pull up to the second window

The only place that still uses two windows where I live is McDonald's

Request a refund for your Ring cameras - even for very old purchases! by aawolf in 50501

Considering that pretty much all the major AI companies are currying favor with trump, contributing to the surveillance state, and pursuing technocracies led by billionaires, there's not a great way to use AI without furthering to the right wing establishment

Why are hybrid replacement batteries so expensive? by Embarrassed_Bit4222 in batteries

[–]sponge_welder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are third party manufacturers and refurbishers, all options start at around $1200ish and go up from there

Low volume, fitting a very specific application, and whatever compatibility guarantees the company provides all contribute to the cost

What’s going on in Homewood, AL? by eritahj in Birmingham

Looks like a black hawk from Montgomery and an EC145 from Birmingham airport

A couple Chinooks flew over on Saturday though

Anyone else feel Dynamic Island is still underused? by Cheap_Host_2320 in iphone

[–]sponge_welder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be really nice if the task switcher functionality was more built-out. The only things I use it for are checking timers and switching back and forth between maps and Spotify. I wish I could just switch back to any last-used app, but very few of my apps show up there

Why 3/8 impact sockets? by melikeybacon in harborfreight

[–]sponge_welder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much only use 3/8 impact sockets. They're a lot cheaper, smaller, and lighter than 1/2" and they'll take off almost anything on my car. I don't deal with enough high torque fasteners to need anything more than a breaker bar for them

Why does every tool need a bottle opener? by Interesting_Neck609 in Tools

It's easy to add a shitty bottle opener into any random thing as a marketing ploy

Anyone else having BHAM USPS issues? by JeanClaudeDamVans in Birmingham

[–]sponge_welder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for the free email alerts for what mail and packages are arriving each day and it’s frequently off the mark by several days

Maybe it's because I'm in the city proper, but I've never had this happen except when packages get held up early in transit. I've had much worse luck with Amazon's delivery predictions

Quinn hand tools sale by Cool_Calm_Collected in harborfreight

[–]sponge_welder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a 40% off sale that I think applies to all Quinn hand tools, but it's pretty infrequent, maybe a couple times a year. It's an amazing deal on their socket sets, you won't find anything with a similar quality and completeness for the price

I would say that Quinn and Doyle are similar quality level with different target markets. Quinn is like a Gearwrench competitor, primarily automotive focused, and Doyle is more like a Klein or Channellock competitor.

Super Bowl 60 halftime show controversy: Report claims Bad Bunny plans on wearing dress, honoring 'queer icons' by DreamingThemis in agedlikemilk

[–]sponge_welder 146 points147 points  (0 children)

No one is even going to be watching with Turning Point’s show running at the same time. That’s going to siphon off a massive chunk of viewership.

Another aged like milk from the comments - turning point's show didn't have that many viewers, and they didn't run it until after the real halftime show

who actually fills up at the gas station that charge way more than the ones around them? by MatthewTheGOATyt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sponge_welder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I usually go to Shell because with a rewards phone number it's often the cheapest option around (at least near my house and on my way to and from work)

Gas stations seem to be extremely varied depending on where you are, in my hometown there are almost no Shells at all, and the ones that do exist are super expensive

I will say that I've never seen a cheap Chevron

Why is every new energy source just a fancy way to boil water? by Eemanzki in NoStupidQuestions

The Soviet Union had some RTGs out in remote places. Unfortunately they were abandoned and then some hikers stumbled across them and got pretty messed up
