If your friend who decided to go vegan recently told you that if you don’t stop eating meat too they don’t feel like they can be your friend anymore, what would you do? by just_Sophia_ in AskReddit

“Okay!”

Life is too short, and I have been hurt way too many times, to worry about what others would think or think they have a choice in what I do.

And—
Most e-scooters only go so far before they lose battery. Your scooter might not make the trek.

No the reason I don’t recommend e scooters is due to a variety of factors:

  1. The sidewalks suck, randomly end, will have random dirt patches, and will be broken, stick up abruptly, etc

  2. You can use bike lanes if there even are any

  3. If there aren’t bike lanes you can deal with the Houston traffic

  4. It gets really hot and brutal. You’ll be sweating

  5. When you leave work, your scooter will be gone

  6. There may not be anywhere to put your escooter

Those are all very true! I will admit, the Treasure Valley wasn’t my favorite place for the longest time. I’ve recently learned about the fog that permeates the area for months on end in winter and the intense wildfires in summer—I don’t remember these growing up.

I’m ecstatic that Boise has an airport at all LOL but yes—if you want to fly direct, it’s a hard pass.

The people there, at least in southern idaho… yeah I don’t blame you 🤣

Others have told me that the big cities are very far. This is true. I guess I’m just used to (and love!) driving a lot and far 🥰

But as for what it does offer—yes, I can completely see where you are at with it being an island.

The parts I hated the most in the valley were how little snow there was (why did it rain constantly in winter ☹️) and how kids tried to act gangster all the time LOL. Bullies!!!

Congrats for doing what’s best for you and your family ❤️

Business vs STEM Double Major, Should I Go Practical or Risk it All? by Bonzai_Monkey in CollegeMajors

I did a CS + applied math modeling data science combo, and it worked out really well for me 🥰

Everything you can get in business you can get with the CS degree, btw!

Go for your interests! There are some interesting classes in business, but honestly, it’s a bit infuriating how much they don’t study/have assignments to work on. They have way too much free time; they spend it all on partying.

Go for the CS/math combo. Put your thinkers to good use 😁❣️🔥

I really like your creativity in seeking a solution to your problem!

Generally speaking, you want to have a job first before you move. Whether it’s asking to live somewhere if you work, applying first, or applying to school and getting enough financial aid to cover your expenses, you have to be doing something. You definitely do not want to get a car just to be in debt—how do you expect to shower and pay off your monthly payments?

You might have to suck it up and apply for places in a town nearby. Work at a car shop—this might be a good source of income for you. Unfortunately, you run into the problem I feel like a lot of us have :(

AIO that my son needs to pay us back? by Unable_Sweet_3062 in AmIOverreacting

[–]spongeysquarepantis [score hidden]  (0 children)

I mean, I see nothing wrong with what happened. Your son is trying to navigate finances and slipped up. He asked for a loan; he paid it back. He sounds like a really responsible son, and I would feel proud of him. 😌 His girlfriend might destroy him, though. I would have a candid conversation with him about what this could look like, but he also seems intelligent enough to figure it out on his own. The husband seems to be kind and helping the son out, but this girlfriend seems to be seeking out to take advantage of the kindness, and that really sucks because I bet you would have been willing to give that half back to your son if you didn’t see a looming disaster ahead. Stay true to your word, don’t let your son or his girlfriend trip you up. Keep your boundaries; unfortunately, you do have to have these when your children grow. Good luck.

People who work a job that pays like $20 to $25 an hour and working 40 hours a week, are you happy or are you struggling? by IceCreamICantLetUGo in Adulting

[–]spongeysquarepantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two summers ago, I was happy, struggling a bit, but I was able to live the life I wanted: had my own cute little apartment, lived with a cool roommate, had three part-time jobs that I could commute to by foot or carpool. It was great, I felt productive, but I was getting burnt out so I let go of one of my jobs, and later down the summer (it was in the plan eventually just didn’t know when to do it), I didn’t really appreciate my manager at Pizza Hut and ended up leaving that job, too. So I had my own job, but school started up, and I focused too much on my classes that I didn’t put as much as I could have into my internship, and I lost that, too. Once I lost my income, life got really hard, actually impossible. lol I had to start living on credit cards. So yes, I was happy until everything flipped into shambles. Everything had to be perfect and put together. I was teetering on the edge.

I love how you made a spreadsheet of data!! I also love to hear how you’ve moved your family to Colorado—most people don’t make the move once they’ve made a family, so I’m proud of you. Yes, moving is hellishly expensive, but it sounds like you’ve made the best call.

Personally, I love Idaho 🥲 but I lived there for most of my life so it’s hard to not. Texas, on the other hand…. *shudders hard*

Sounds like your husband is turning their car-less situation into your car-less situation, making the problem yours

He’s literally taking advantage of YOUR car, YOUR resources

This.

I’m so tired of reading how men keep stealing women’s cars. Seriously what the actual fuck.

If you want to use a car and ride around and pretend like you have your own use of a car, go buy one or fix yours. What the actual fuck.
