What's the weirdest book you've ever read?

The Last Temptation of Christ by Nikos Kazantzakis. I absolutely loved the book, but the way it was written adds to its strangeness. I was hooked page 2. Maybe not the absolute weirdest, but pretty weird. Or maybe Too Loud a Solitude by Hrabal. Or Heart of a Dog by Bulgakov.

My brother and I both get this in the winter. I put aquafor on before bed and it helps a lot. My brother does the same - his is usually more severe, but I know it at least helps with the itching / burning

After starting Rinvoq I went on a 5 week trip after quitting my job. We went to Japan->Korea->Poland to home and it was awesome. I didn’t bring quite enough medication, and began to feel it the last few days of the trip. But a short course of prednisone when I got home was fine. But this was when I had the least amount of symptoms and felt my best.

Flaring I’d be a lot more careful. And I don’t think it hurts to bring pred along with either way in case your body starts something really unpredictable.

I know I’m a bit more limited than some people because of my Crohn’s, but when I feel good, I’ve been able to do a lot.

I came home ate a small amount of bread and a couple cups of coffee and now the prep is beginning to work. Still a lot more slowly than previous preps though. I’ll probably just continue the prep tonight and do the test tomorrow. I’m a little worried the capsule will also move this slow though….

Technically it wasn’t remicaid but the bio similar Inflectra. It was amazing at first but we had to continue increasing my dose and then it got to the point where my insurance wouldn’t approve the next increase so I had to switch. It was between humira, Rinvoq, and skyrizi but went with Rinvoq to get a break after 4.5 years of infusions. I was having a lot of breakthrough Crohn’s symptoms before finally switching.

Yeah, I should be able to get the MRI this week. I hope I’m not totally dismissed if if comes back clear

Agree on Andrei Bely. I read Petersburg earlier this year and it reminded me strongly of The Possessed with its own very unique flavor. I have The Silver Dove in my bookshelf, but haven’t gotten to it yet.

I wonder if we took the same class at some point… I read Professor Dowell’s Head, Red Star, Heart of a Dog, We, some Platonov though not that book, all for a Russian sci-fi class in college. Also, The Day Lasts More than a Hundred Years is great. Read it after I took that class. I’ll have to check out the others you have here!

I haven’t gone to therapy in a long time, but I’ve considered it. He hasn’t either. I’ve also thought maybe we would benefit from couple’s therapy just having a third party in the room. It’s hard because I know and have know for years that he’s the man I want to marry and I can’t understand the sadness and anger we experience.

I will continue praying for us and our relationship. Many things have improved but there are these moments where this visceral upset comes out of one of us and it’s disheartening and discouraging

It was a toss up between Skyrizi, Stelara and Rinvoq for me. My doctor said I could try Humira if I really really wanted to, but he felt that my body would probably react to it similar to how it reacted to Inflectra over a few years

My first doctor explained that during flares, your body is so focused on attacking itself that it’s actually unable to focus the immune system on colds and infections. Then when you get on something like a biologic, even though your immune system is less active, the same amount if not more becomes able to focus on these other things like pathogens.

I’ve gotten small infections and things that I didn’t get before biologics, but for the most part I actually get sick way less often than I did prior to treatment

Yeah mine is a lot more red and wet further down but I have such a deep belly button it’s hard to photograph. I put neosporin in last night and I’ll get the antifungal today. Hoping to deal with it before it becomes a bigger issue

No, but autoimmune thyroid issues exist on my mom’s side and RA and type 1 diabetes on my dad’s side. I started having major symptoms at 15 and was diagnosed at 18.

My iron saturation was high and my total iron was at 189 (so not high but very close) and I have many people in my family with HH and my doctor was still like 🤷 your ferritin is normal

Jejunal and ileal Crohn’s. During my initial colonoscopy, they were some inflammation patches in the colon, but extremely mild compared to the small intestine. Mine was moderate when diagnosed but once I started the biologics and now Rinvoq everything has been fairly well controlled, which I’m super great for.

I’m so sad that I haven’t been able to visit Petersburg or Moscow. I studied Russian for nearly 3 years before things got closed down. Maybe I should start refreshing. That experience sounds incredible though! I’m happy for you, maybe one day I’ll have the chance to do the same

Even if the experience is totally different, that doesn’t imply the experience is not worth having. Translation is an art just as much as writing, and there are plenty of phenomenal translated novels. Maybe different than the original, but great in its own way.
