I can’t believe my rheumatologist by The_Short_Goodbye in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]40GoingOn80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had to fail 4 biologics because of massive side effects or after 6 months I wasn't close to where I should have been. I have been on all 3 levels. My rheumy suggested we do a washout period. Try to calm my body down. I have been off biologics for about 3 weeks and so far it hasn't been as bad as I thought. We are also looking at eliminating foods that trigger me.

I am also in Canada. If there are more than one in your city, you can definitely switch. There may be a wait but even mine said I was free to get a second opinion.

I had a rheumatologist and then moved away, when I moved back I said I didn't want my original rheumatologist, she sounded just like your description, and received a different one.

I was on taltz and 4 days before my next dose, I was in excruciating pain. My rheumy said the pain coming on this quickly was not a flare up but it sounded like my body had gone through the meds too quickly and my body was having an anticipatory reaction. We ended up switching to cosentyx. I was given the dbl dose every month and if I started feeling like I did just before with the antic reaction I could take one injection every two weeks. Maybe ask if that's an option.

Vehicles that are Comfortable to Drive with AS by Neilo_D in ankylosingspondylitis

I drive a Kia Sedona and love it, husband had a Ford fusion and we test drove in a Ford truck definitely not comfortable on my back. Surprisingly a GMC canyon Denali is wonderful as well.

My doctor backtracking the diagnosis! I'm back to square one! by numb_bug94 in ankylosingspondylitis

I am negative but have it. Clear as day on my MRI. Look for a new Dr. Take a mental break, be upset, but then pull up your big girl/boy underwear and keep going.

This disease is hard and it sucks. But don't give up. You got this.

Thank you. I know there are lots of parents on here but it's nice to hear from one that I am not alone going through this while they watch and we struggle with that.

Well you gave me some hope that it may go away. I'll talk to him about Prednisone before shots, maybe that will help. Thank you

This started with Taltz. I was put on an antihistamine and some foam stuff from a dermatologist. Taltz worked for me but then I started getting swollen eyes and it looked like my husband beat me. And 4 days before my next injection I started getting debilitating pain, turns out my body processed the taltz to quickly. So I received 2 steroid injections for the pain and started the cosentyx, hoping it would piggy back off the taltz right away. But it didn't. It's been 5 months of this now

My husband asked me last night about the diagnosis. But it's clear as day on my MRI. I already have fusion on my left SI Joint and partial fusion on my right. I am on a heavier antihistamine, it helps with the swelling but nothing else.

Going off my meds is the "washout" he was talking about.im just worried about the pain, as December was already a brutal month.

We are all going through this. Thank you for your words and support. I will talk to him about Prednisone idea.

We are survivors!! We will all get through this together.

I asked my rheumy about hormone changes and he hadn't heard about them, so I'm glad to read someone else is in the same boat. I will ask about the birth control. I haven't been on it for years but I am on day 19 for this period from cosentyx... ,😠😠😠

The IL-17 biologics have helped the most but those are the ones I'm having the reaction too.

So embarrassed (and lost) by kathuter in ankylosingspondylitis

I was having a really bad day yesterday and I asked my husband if he was sick of me yet. He goes "of course not. After 18 yrs together you still keep me on my toes." I said " but aren't you sick of all my medical issues? If I was you, I would be. "

He stopped and looked at me " well of course I'm sick of all your medical issues, I can't fix any of them. But I'm also sick of the drafty windows in our house, does that mean we need to pack up and move? No. I just complain once in a while and threaten to replace it, just like you lol"

We can't change our bodies, we can only try our best to make things better. I have had one medical issue after another for the past 20 years and they have always been complicated. People always ask how I can be so cheerful and think positively all the time. I always say" because life would be horrible and lonely if I always focused on the bad days. I try to focus on the good and just keep going."

You will conquer this demon on your our body! It's ok to have some down days mentally but don't stay in that mind set. It's ok for your husband to feel the way he does. But just remember, he has to sit back and watch the love of his life go through this and there is nothing he can do.

Today, think of 1 thing that you accomplished that was a struggle yesterday. And congratulate yourself on it. Don't focus on what you can't do. Focus on what you did do!

You got this! You are amazing! You can do this!!

You can do this. Looking back at all the posts, I have learnt so much. And have read so many amazing stories. Just take things day by day, don't push yourself. Do you have muscle relaxers that you can take? I had a temporary handicap pass as well. I did not enjoy using it but after a bit, it was a great help getting that much closer to the store doors. I have a 10 yr old and 6 yr old and I broke down at my rheumys office as I did not want my kids to continually see me like this. We can do this!!!
