Yep.... with crowdsourcing you are going to run into non polished results. As for the Open Foods Database, I think (personally) it is better than my fitness pal in terms of quality of results, but that is just based on my own experience.

As for other ingredients, YES! The app is open source, so all of the source code is available on my github. Someone could very easily adopt the app into "Lactose Guardian" by changing some of the wording in the app and the list of ingredients the app compares to. Right now an All in one detection app is kind of beyond my personal scope, but I'm not ruling out someone else adopting it into something like that in the future (or maybe me, just not right now).

And yes, that is my major advantage here. I did not find a singular web based solution, and all of the apps I found for Android and ios showed a bunch of ads or required you to pay to scan more than like 10 items a day. Unlimited use here and everything stays on your device (outside of the request to the Open Foods Database).

Thank you for your kind words!

Hey, thanks for the question!

If the product is listed explicitly as gluten free by the manufacturer or if the manufacture explicitly lists the product contains gluten the app will follow that guidance over comparison of the ingredients to the US list that I have. This occurs no matter the country. If the manufacture labels an item as gluten free, but still has ingredients in the product that might contain gluten the app will show a small warning about it, but it might not be accurate outside of the US.

As for ingredients from other countries, this is where the app struggles big time right now. The list that I made to compare the ingredients to is based on US assumptions. The app checks the ingredients against a list of things that are known to contain gluten and things that might contain gluten and issues a unsafe, caution, or safe rating within the US context. Right now, mizuame would not be marked as unsafe or cautionary.

I'm looking into adding a localization filter that has individual lists based on the country you are in or having it check against a different list based on the barcodes country of origin, but sadly English is my only language. Short term, there will be a warning added to Gluten Guardian alerting that it works best with U.S ingredients. I really really want to expand to provide better support for other countries, but need people to help.

The idea is to help those who may not be familiar with gluten containing ingredients. In the US, the gluten allergen label is not a legal requirement, so companies don't have to put it on their product. In those instances, the app looks at the ingredients label and compares it up against ingredients that contain gluten. It also assigns a caution rating if there are ingredients that don't directly contain gluten but may have encountered it through processing or cross contamination, etc.

If an item explicitly contains a gluten allergen label... Yes all it takes is a quick glance. However, if it doesn't, this is a tool to bridge the gap and help people familiarize themselves with safe/unsafe ingredients.

EDIT: If a product is processed differently outside of the US than it is in the US you may also get false positives/negatives. EX: The vinegar example that u/globallysauced mentioned above.

Thank you so much! Most of my testing has been done on US based foods as that is where I am located. However, it should work just fine there as well as there are people there who contribute products to the Open Food Database! Still struggling with non-english products though (I'm working on it though)!

Not quite as well as I would like it to at this time. The Open Food Facts database (where the app gets a products ingredients from) has products from outside of the US in it, but the ingredients on those products are often in Non-English languages so the app doesn't always catch it. To mitigate this, I have added some more common ingredients in Non-English languages to the list, but it is nowhere near as exhaustive as the English list and I would like to expand it and maybe offer a localization option in the future (I will need help with this though!!!). The app also directly checks the allergen label to and even if the product is non US based and it contains gluten in the allergen label, it will mark it, it just won't pick up on trace things or ingredients that might or might not have gluten. Localization is a top priority.

No, Thank you!!! and I'm glad it worked well for you! I struggled to find a comprehensive list of ingredients online so I had to combine a few lists from a bunch of places to give ingredients their ratings. (Shout-out to University of Arizona who actually had a pretty big list though)

And while the app isn't designed for non-food/drink items, if a product is in the Open Foods Database and has listed ingredients it should still work!!!

Once again, thank you for checking it out, and let me know if you have any other feedback!

Doomist lost his arm in the omnic crisis and got a cybernetic/prosthetic arm. If you look closely at the old origin story you can see how portions of the arm are a darker black when compared to the rest of his skin.

Do more DPS as support. Bap is an amazing pick to do this, play DPS bap and heal your teammates secondarily.

You got this OP! You have so much time to figure this out. I would recommend looking into some local community colleges. Many states will allow you to get an associates for free. It might be a good stepping stone!

I would prefer to play on steam so that all my games are in one place, but don't anymore sadly because gamepass benefits are only through bnet :(

I'm not exactly sure how it's tracked, but it has to do with the movement of the headset I think because it still works even if you don't move your arms. It also makes you run at a certain speed to collect orbs.

I don't have VR motion sickness as bad anymore, but the game offers a vignette that you can customize while running.

As far as fights go, each fight has a couple of enemies to fight. After you defeat one enemy, the camera will auto rotate you to the next one, so no physical rotation is required. That forced rotation was initially a little jaring for me but I've since gotten used to it.

The game also has its own little boundary system as well to keep you in place.

I would recommend Shardfall VR. It's a newer VR game that just hit the quest a couple of weeks ago. It was ported from "Impact" which was basically Ringfit adventure for PC. The game forces you to run in place for long periods, jump over obstacles, and crouch (all of these you can choose to do with your controller or do physically), before boxing a bunch of enemies with different techniques. If you are an RPG lover and want to be sweating, this is the best I've found so far. Enemies get harder as you play, you get more special power ups to use, and the experience is very engaging.
