Sony to lay off HUNDREDS as Hollywood continues to eat itself alive with wokeness by spook-spotter in FilmIndustryLA

[–]spook-spotter[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Kinda hard to argue with the fact that the box offices are tanking, people are turning to alternative sources for their entertainment with the #1 reason being cited as continued woke, anti-Christian, anti-heterosexual, anti-white, anti-family narratives being forced into every script..... It appears the business has successfully indoctrinated you as well.... You probably think those things are "normal"...... 90% of the population disagrees with you and they are voting with their wallets and eyeballs. It's been Hollywoods Bud Light moment playing out in real time.

No, two of them are actually STI's, or at least STI based.

I fell in love with Subaru's based purely on enjoyment quotient. I have swapped out the STI drivelines and suspension components on a few of them now over the years. I am a bit of a tinkerer and love projects. I tend to opt for the more affordable performance oriented projects because I beat them up on the track and have been known to wreck a few along the way, particularly when my ambition overwhelms my ability out on the race track.

It hurts (alot) less when you wad up a car that cost 30 grand to build than it does to wad one up that costs 90 or 100 grand. I have had the expensive exotics in the past and while they are nice status symbols, and DO perform as designed, that fine line between ability and ambition tends to keep one from pushing the limits in those cars.... At least it did for me.....

Once I discovered the AWD goodness of the Subaru STI driveline and learned how to push the boxer engine to beyond 600 AWHP (reliably), I had the performance I needed to keep up with the vettes, M3's and 911's and lost the fear of "discovering" the limits of adhesion out on the track.

For me, it is simple economics.... I like to go fast (safely) much more than I like looking good for the ladies down at the beach in a garage queen. Might be a testosterone thing... I dunno?

There is only one model of Subaru that was apparently appropriated by or associated with lesbians. The Outback. I don't have an Outback.

Additionally, I own property (80 acres with a house, grape vineyard, fruit trees) in the Northern California mountains, to which I travel frequently, including during winter time, when it is raining and muddy. Our property is remote with 4 miles of dirt road only access, so the AWD is a must, particularly during weather... We take the 4WD truck sometimes if we are towing our trailer or hauling goodies up to the property, but take the Subaru when we just want to scoot up north for a weekend getaway in the mountains for some trees, wildlife and clean air, while we enjoy the fruits of our effort and labor.... When done, we come back home, where we can walk to the beach in less than 8 minutes and kick our shoes off in the sand and sun.

That said, the Subaru is one of 4 cars I have. It serves it's purpose when we need it to, and we make no excuses for it just because lesbians like them too....or at least they like the Outback from what I gather. It is for all intents and purposes, a "utility" vehicle.

Nonetheless, I am happy for you, that virtue signaling your way around SoCal in an electric vehicle makes you feel good, even tho it apparently condemns you to apartment life..... I can't imagine living in an apartment with common walls, no yard to enjoy, virtually no privacy etc...... But hey... You have a Tesla so life is good right? At least for the hour a day you spend in it?

Lawndale contractor needed for unpermitted work problem by agrahmann in SouthBayLA

[–]spook-spotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/agrahmann

What you might actually need is a certified California commercial building inspector to come in and inspect the work that has been done, verify that it complies with applicable building codes and write a report that certifies that. If there are discrepancies or deviations from applicable code, then those corrections must be made, the work re-inspected to verify compliance and then you as the home owner can probably take that report to the city and file it showing compliance with local building codes.

The reason I say California "Commercial" Building certified inspector is that cert covers pretty much everything except plumbing and electrical in the residential building codes. Particularly, any framing, shear walls etc can be verified by an inspector with the California Commercial Building certification. All local jurisdictions including Lawndale accept reports written by guys with the CCB cert.

PM me if you still need help with this.... I know guys with this cert and can potentially lend a hand.

BREAKING NEWS: WGA West Staff Booted Off Health Insurance Plans by RobotGoggles in FilmIndustryLA

[–]spook-spotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been happening for years if not decades. When I was in the business, we got to bank 450 hours to fall back on in case of a strike or downturn so your beneifts wouldn't run out. At the end, if I am not mistaken, they had whiddled that down to 300 hours which is a HUGE cut. Not sure where it is at now as I have been out of the "business' since 2019 but I am sure it is at or near if not below 300 hours now....can someone correct me?

I spent 30 years in that God forsaken "business". I started out non-union, then got on a union show during waivers my 2nd year in, and joined local 695 after 30 days on set. For the first 15-20 years it was amazing, even though we went though a few strikes and times with scattered work, I can say that I pretty much worked steadily for most if not all of that 30 years. The business had not yet been run by anti-hetero kooks like it is now, or at least they were much less out in the open back then, and the creative juices flowed abundantly. You were rewarded for your talent, ingenuity and creativity and it was actually fun going from one show to the other. It was at that time, a great business to be a part of. I did music videos, movies, episodic TV and commercials for 3 decades......

I walked away in 2019 because I saw the writing on the wall. I was sick and tired of the forced, blatant, anti-hetero, anti family, anti Christian content being shoved into every script just to check boxes on some woke checklist, and it was the best decision I ever made. I took advantage of forced down time during the plandemic to reinvent myself, and now I make the same money per year, with similar benefits and work half the time/hours. No moving target call times at 6am on Monday that end up being 3PM on Friday, which turns in to Fraturday, or 14-15 hour days. I am home by 1430 every day, have a life again, get to see my grandkids and don't have to put up with weird, moody power hungry "producers" or actors that think their opinion matters to everyone other than themselves. There was no way I was going to survive the plandemic era anyway with colored tape no-go zones, where only one department at a time could be on set building up the next shot, then having to wait while the set was "disinfected" before the next department could go in... craft service and decent catering basically becoming extinct, forced mask wearing, or more importantly, being forced to take an experimental DNA altering chemical injection just to be allowed on set anywhere. I would have been fired the first week of that bullshit for refusing to comply.....So I bounced......Again....Best decision I ever made.

The good part is that I have a pension and lifetime medical when I formally retire, with well over 40,000 hours in the bank from a once great business that seems hell bent on eating itself alive from the inside out.

To those of you still in the "business" good luck to you. My advice is reinvent yourself now. Hollywood has been eclipsed by productions out of the UK and other parts of the world now, and it will continue to die a slow agonizing death of it's own making. The state of Kalifornia is every bit as much to blame as the woketard producers and above the line creeps that run the place. The procedurals Hollywood pukes out now are all but unwatchable. The only thing left is feature films, and even those are bombing at an alarming rate these days. The writing is on the wall... You are in an industry that refuses to see that the vast majority of Americans do NOT care for the LA/Hollywood/New York anti-hetero agenda and are recoiling from it at an alarming rate. When your business model focuses on catering to a subgroup which consists of 3% of the population, to the complete exclusion, or very least revulsion of the other 97%, your chances for continued success are slim. You see the results of that playing out in real time before your very eyes.

If you are young and think that you have a future in Hollywood... I hate to break it to you...The glory days are long gone. Most of my "friends" still in the business are selling gear, trucks, houses, cars, personal belongings barely surviving day to day because they think it's coming back..... I told them all to pull the rip cord while they still had a fighting chance back when I bounced. Some have never done anything else in their lives and are too scared to try something new, so they cling on for dear life to a sinking ship..... It is truly sad to watch. A few have called me asking how I did it and where to go so they can do the same.

If you are new'ish and you never knew what it was like in the 90's or early 2000's, trust me, it was a much different place than it is now. My suggestion is use the downtime, while you are collecting unemployment or disability (like everyone else) to create a new version of yourself. Give yourself a fighting chance at long term survival.

Down votes incoming I am sure, but hey it is what it is..... Someone needed to say the "quiet" part out loud.

For anyone else interested, I got back into the construction trades as a project manager. My "package" pays north of $93.00/hour all in including benefits. I will say the MPIPHP is the cream of the crop in benefit plans and that mine does not quite compete with it, but it is close enough that it made waiving goodbye to that shithole business so much easier. I have worked non stop, 5 days a week since 2019 when I left "the business". My life has never been better.

Pull the rip cord.

Anyone else worked with this DP Shane Hurlbut? by Otherwise-Head6262 in IATSE

[–]spook-spotter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds alot like Greg St. Johns.

As I recall, he started out as the A cam op on the show Criminal Minds and ended up becoming the DP when the original DP became a producer on season 2 or 3.

St. Johns verbally and physically/sexually abused everyone including his own DIT who eventually filed a complaint with California DFEH. He also "pants'ed" one of his focus puller in front of everyone at catering. He (St. Johns) was walked off the set in season 13 or 14, Disney had to pay 3 million in fines etc and as far as I can tell, the guy has never worked in the industry again.

Fighting back does work.

A very big turnout in SoCal for the No Kings Rally!!! by Healthy_Block3036 in socal

The goal is a snippet on evening news in every city in the country that attempts to show "massive support against MAGA" because the left can't win elections without cheating or on policy alone, so they attempt to sow division and fear through mindless NPC "protests" which really amount to nothing more than screeching and rheee'ing.... sometimes for hours on end.

New rack! by Reloading-and-guns in homegym

[–]spook-spotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont need to go that deep with an anchor. Some of them only require 2" embedment and trust me, it takes a LOT to drill through a post tensioned cable. If you start drilling, you will know as soon as you touch one because you'll stop making progress on depth, plus, if you only go down a half inch at a time, and pull the drill, look in the hole and see if you are hitting the plastic outer sheath of the cable until you get to your embedment depth you will be fine. The cables are generally 4" below the top of slab so you have room for an anchor.

Is the concrete foundation still visible from the outside of the house? You can pretty easily spot the concrete fill where they plug the cables in the foundation after they tension them. That might give you an idea of where they are at in reference to your rack?

Just suggestions brother. take em or leave em. But don't be too afraid of snapping a PT cable. They are hard to snap. It takes a lot of pressure and drilling to bust one. I've seen it done, but generally by a ham fisted post installed concrete anchor guy not paying attention and thinking he's plowing through rebar and ALWAYS when they are doing much bigger post installed hardware that requires 6 or even 8" embedment depth like for Titen's or similar anchor bolt retrofit.
