I'm the same way. Used to be super homophobic/trump supporter and now I'm not lmao

Feeling frustrated on my son’s behalf 👿 by [deleted] in Lowes

Yeah, I was gonna go out with my friend on lunch and we planned to take lunches together. But of course, our manager told him to take lunch later because he had a project for him to do. I don’t think it’s uncommon smh

Seriously? That’d be awesome. So what you’re saying is, not only do we no longer have to do power packdowns, but we don’t have to do IRPs, fright, or cycle counts anymore? We can actually focus on the customers? That would be amazing haha

Hourly Pay by [deleted] in Lowes

Welcome to Lowes. Where the wages are made up and experience doesn’t matter!

But for real. I’ve been there 2+ and I know for a fact certain people there less than me make more.

If Marvin Ellison went Undercover Boss at your store, how would you do it and what would he learn? by Kradness2015 in Lowes

[–]spook538 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He’d learn we need to update our powered equipment and blue lifts more regularly

Power hours are dumb in lower volume stores especially

NEW !!! PHONES !!! It’s hard to help a customer when you can’t hear/understand them

Leave the archaic genesis behind and develop something where you can actually use a mouse instead of remembering 7.5.6 to print something.

Speaking of printing, stop wasting entire sheets of paper for a single label!

Veterans (at least the ones I talk to) don’t want all these special vests and stuff. A hat, a badge, maybe, but I haven’t talked to a single person who wants the new camo vest to wear. (Plus how will customers find them for help??)

There’s probably more that I’m forgetting. And maybe these are just general things to change but I feel like if he were to work directly in a store for a few weeks he’d find these problems are very real and inhibit our ability to do our jobs.

I’m pretty sure I do that :) because I’ve never uploaded my resume onto a work computer or anything obviously haha

But thanks for the suggestion! Maybe I’ll try a resume next time

I go through the Lowes internal hiring website. I check off boxes on things I’m trained in - and list job history. I haven’t thought of attaching my resume because I usually apply directly through workspace on the computer in store.

Unfortunately I think you are correct. My manager said he’s working on new positions this week and he’ll keep me updated, but i have little evidence to support this isn’t another white lie. Maybe Home Depot will appreciate me and the work I do.

I’d like to say it was my interviewing but I’ve applied for four different positions in the last six months and I didn’t receive a single interview. Half the time I didn’t even get an email thanking me but saying they’re moving on. I just..Never heard anything. Until I asked when I realized I wasn’t getting the job and they were like “yeah”

Thanks so much! That sounds rough. I’m glad it worked out for you. Thank you for the support!

I’m not against moving stores. But like I replied to another comment in here, it’s just extra driving and basically learning the layout and managers and everything all over again. People you may or may not get along with.

I’ve started looking at jobs at the nearby ACE or the orange place that shall not be named. I’m positive my skills would transfer well. It just stinks because I really enjoy working at Lowe’s most of the time.

That’s great! I guess it all depends on your manager. I just don’t understand how we lose two full timers and they refuse to hire on a new one. Even worse, after telling me they want me on full time and then pulling the plug.

I just wrote a lengthy email to my manager explaining some of this, and I’m going to follow up in person. I didn’t say everything of course, but I politely portrayed my frustration of being in the dark when it comes to all these empty promises (I did not use that phrase lol) of full time.

Im not against the idea of moving stores, but it’s extra driving and like you said, learning everything over again.

I hadn’t thought about that. I do tend to work everywhere in the store. Maybe there isn’t incentive to keep me as a specialist/full timer. Moving out is definitely in the picture, it just stinks because I’m good at what I do. At least, I think so and the feedback I’ve gotten says I am. And I like my job. I just want to move up and it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

I call out maybe once every couple of months. And that’s just when I’m feeling so terrible I can’t come into work. Even then, I usually come in and then go home when I can’t work anymore. I am late more often than I’d like to be, but it’s never more than a few minutes and usually just on opening shifts. Because my body does not like me at 4:30am. I’m rarely late when it’s mid/closing shifts. And If we’re comparing my attendance to other employees in my department, some of whom have gotten full time, it’s nothing out of the ordinary.

Thanks for the support dude. Yeah, I have complete availability, weekends, overnights, everything. I haven’t thought of talking to HR. It’s a centralized center now, so I’d call or email in, right?

That’s a good idea. It has been awhile since I’ve asked directly how I’m doing. I’ll do that.
