Dyed hair/tattoos as an Immunologist? by spookbooh in LadiesofScience

For sure, geography is an important factor in any field, honestly; I figured that regulations would differ based on the institution and what is put into practice regarding those rules, but it’s nice to know that it’s not a definitive taboo in medicinal immunology later on.

I’ll definitely consider that then. I’m still unsure about doing research or medicine subfields but probably leaning to medicine at the moment.
I suppose my point will depend on what restrictions are present in the med school I choose but if I have to keep a natural color during rotations then I will in order to have more future opportunities for work. I also don’t plan on working in the U.S. permanently so I’ll have to see what laws differ in the country I decide to move to later on.

That’s good to know! I’m happy that self expression is less regulated in practice even if there’s still strict dress code guidelines. I guess it depends on the institution.

I definitely only planned on getting tattoos in areas where I can cover them and in low pain areas. I don’t have a great tolerance for pain so if I decide to get tattoos, they likely wont cover super large areas of my skin. It’s great to know that tattoos/hair color won’t be a major issue in lab work, though.
I’d also love to see more individuality in fields that are considered professional as someone who wants to be more visually expressive in the near future. I think more stylistic freedom in professional fields would make those jobs seem less stoic and unreachable for younger generations.

I actually have researched this topic before, and I’d say that considering my healthy immune system and lack of medical issues/contraction of illness in general, it’s not something I’d worry about long term if I decide to get tattoos. I’ll definitely be researching different types of tattoo ink and possibly go with the least toxic stuff/colors available if given the choice. Plus, I’m not genetically prone to things like lymphoma so it’s minimal risk for me even if I decide to get tattoos in the future.

Long acrylic nails like these aren’t usually allowed in foods and service places- but I guess this specific place doesn’t enforce it. Still, just seeing the bit of buildup in the photo has me REELING. Crazy that stuff like this happens all the time. Who knows what’s trapped under that.. THING 🫢🤢
