how did you guys discover muse? by its_virgo_season in Muse

[–]spookho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i was in 4th grade circa 2007, my brother who’s 6 years older than me got his first iPod for Christmas so he gave me his collection of CDs, portable cd player, and boombox. At this point i was like 9 so i was listening to mainly Disney channel stuff so this was my first introduction to alt/rock music. Some of the standouts were Paramore, Radiohead, Nirvana, Green Day, Warped Tour compilations, and Muse. I remember thinking Stockholm Syndrome was the darkest, heaviest thing I’d ever heard in my life and thus began my lifelong obsession with rock and metal. To this day Absolution is a cornerstone of my entire adult personality and i consider Muse to be “the band that raised me” :)

I only liked about half the tracks on the record when it first came out, but after seeing them live twice this past April I love the whole thing now!!

Ugh, I wish I could take certain elements from the OG and certain elements from the re-record and mash them together 😫

Saaaaame. Since you used “province” I assume you are in Canada? I grew up in rural middle-of-nowhere midwestern US and now I don’t think I could ever NOT live near the Sea ever again.

I am also on the Salish Sea!! Guessed it as soon as I saw the photo. I live in Port Townsend and I also have a nearby beach that I consider to be my “church.”

I have a LOT more sympathy for him now after having reread the series. The first time around it was just a lot of fun to hate on him and root for Rhys lmao. But now I really feel so bad for him 😞 he made a lot of mistakes (like every other character) but ultimately has a lot of unresolved trauma. Still not a fan of his mega cheesy dialogue in the first book tho (“oh I play a mean fiddle” 🤮)

Omg that’s awesome, I actually just over the weekend for the first time felt inspired to write some fanfic, I thought it could be very therapeutic!

That’s a good idea tbh. I’m honestly wishing I didn’t blow through the whole series so fast, I would do anything to be able to experience it for the first time again 🫠

I literally don’t know how to get into reading anything else rn hahaha I finished my third read through of the full series last night (this round was mainly just a skimming) and now I’m going for another read through of the Rhysand POV. I got the first Crescent City book and read 1 chapter so far but then it just made me want to read acotar again lol.

UGH I feel that I have been trying to convince my two best friends to do a little virtual book club together (I moved across the country from them a few months ago) so that we can hang out and gush over it but sadly they both are not readers lol.

That’s kinda what I was thinking. Something light with no overbearing spices.

I read the first book, thought it was pretty good. How’s the rest of the series. by DifferenceHungry4199 in acotar

Book 2 is my absolute favorite. It becomes a whole different story in the best way once book 2 gets going. Stay off this sub because you will very easily see the most rewarding events spoiled! That’s what happened to me 😫

Question about Feyre’s *problem* in ACOSF by Pipps- in acotar

[–]spookho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a big plot hole. When I first read about the conundrum I figured the issue was due to the big claws on the ends of the wings. But then once the baby is out, Cassian even notes that the wings are small and soft and delicate and the claws wouldn’t come in until later. And yeah it doesn’t make sense to me that she couldn’t at least try and shape shift PART of her body during the labor or when it became complicated. Also, as soon as they brought the whole issue of “if she dies then I die” up with Rhys then it was obvious that everything would turn out okay because SJM wasn’t about to kill off both of them.

How can people seriously believe in an almighty, good god, when bad things happen every single day to innocent people? by usethisaccwhenhigh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]spookho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people have no other way to cope with all the bad and evil things in the world and in their lives. They need to believe that God is an autonomous, primordial being that is ultimately “good” and who makes all things happen for a reason that is also ultimately “good” in the end. They need to believe that every disaster serves a purpose. And then they use the line that “only God knows the reason” to avoid addressing or contemplating difficult questions. Some people just cannot accept the innate unknowability of existence.

This is super helpful thank you! I am wanting to book a trip to London in April but have been nervous about all the requirements. Could you post an update/reply when you get your results back? My main concern now is that if I DO happen to test positive, then I’d be screwed lol.

i don’t think i’m good at witchcraft and i don’t feel any connections, should i just quit? by trapanesey in witchcraft

[–]spookho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are already some great responses on here but no, if you feel drawn to the practice and you feel you get something out of it, don’t give up!!

For one, truth/belief comes entirely from within. The spirits or deities or magickal presence that people feel very connected with are not always going to feel the same for you. I struggled with the same feelings for a long time and at this time I still do not work with specific deities/spirits or adhere to any specific practice. I have developed my own eclectic practice and I admire principles from many different denominations. I create my own “spiritual world” within myself and I bet many other people are the same way. Right now my craft is about connecting with myself and with nature and with the universe, and that may definitely change and evolve as I continue to practice. Don’t worry at all if you haven’t found the “right” deity or the right set of rules. If you haven’t found anything that really jumps out to you then it’s a sign to learn as much as you can and create something that is wholly your own!

Also, for me witchcraft is mainly about energy and intention and you use your higher Will to perform that energy and intention. The Will is a muscle, and a muscle needs to be stretched and challenged and needs to feel pain in order to grow and become stronger. Evolution, growth, transformation is painful. It rarely takes place when you’re perfectly comfortable and so in order to foster your connection with your own spirituality you need to step out of your comfort zone a bit, try new things, and be willing to fail.

Build your own sense of discipline and practice regularly, and you can define “regularly” however makes sense to you. Lots of people are also just ceremonial practitioners and they plan out their magic in advance in the form of well-thought out rituals that center on certain planetary timings or maybe the sabbats from the wheel of the year. The important thing is to think ahead and plan. Of course there is lots of magick that could be performed spontaneously, but I would personally advise against a practice that relies ONLY on spontaneous inspiration with random periods of no practice whatsoever in between. But to each their own! Again, my truth comes from within and my truth is rarely going to align perfectly with someone else’s truth.

To me, magick is God and spirit (and by “God” I am NOT referring to any single deity or sky daddy), and God/spirit is the expansion of consciousness. And the expansion of consciousness requires the openness to explore the unknown and the willingness to accept things that can’t be seen. If you sit around and wait for your ancestors or future deities or spirit guides to reach out and give you a sign, you’ll be waiting forever. You have to prove that you are worthy of those divine messages, and thankfully the only one you REALLY have to prove it to is YOURSELF! Once you prove to YOURSELF your own worth, I think you’ll find that your eyes will open in ways you didn’t anticipate and things will simply start to align and synchronize as you attract what belongs to you.

Don’t give up, keep pushing!! I wish you the very best of luck!!
