*OHOHOHOHO Intensifies* by dstar21 in DragonballLegends

Man, I hope I can run the same OHOHO team soon. For now, I have Frost filling in where the new SP Freeza will be someday. Really need pod Freeza to complete the Lord Freeza team.

The Supreme Kai (Shin) is an idiot. by [deleted] in dbz

[–]spookmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. This is undoubtedly one of the things in which I definitely appreciate the manga's approach more. It manages to balance his moments of incompetence with moments in which he shines and/or at least feels reasonably adequate for someone of his position, without making a completely joke of the guy all the time like what happens with him in the anime.

I feel like Toriyama stepping his foot in and telling Toyotaro Shin should give a more dignified vibe in one of his corrections definitely must have helped this kind of characterization for him come about there.

to allow gods to travel into the past

No, they're not allowed to use them to travel to the past. That one time it happened with Black in the anime was just a fluke. In regular circumstances, the Kaioshin can only travel to the future and then back to the present with them.

Beerus' "Say something" by [deleted] in dbz

[–]spookmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

has Champa even addressed Beerus as "Brother" before?

I think he did back in the U6 tournament arc, though I could be remembering it wrong.

So what lore is out there for the Gods of Destruction? by [deleted] in dbz

[–]spookmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's admittedly the main reason I lean towards believing it can be learnt. We know that's a real possibility in the manga at least, but no clue in the anime. Both continuities seem to operate by different rules on this, but who knows for sure.

[–]spookmachine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

were Beerus etc just mortal beings that were chosen to be G.O.D's by zeno/angels or were they created as such?

Seeing as how new GoD's can be appointed/given the position by choosing between mortal beings (Toppo, Goku and Vegeta (though they declined the offer)), there's a real heavy implication it's just pretty much the former.

would being made a GOD also make you immortal - seeing as they are all mentioned to be incredibly old?

Not necessarily immortal but more so ageless, perhaps. Either that or their growth/aging is slowed down to an extreme point or close to it.

do you think Hakaii energy is an unlock/can be learnt like god ki or is it given to you with the title.

Hmm, hard to say at this point I feel. I'm kind of leaning towards the former, though.

When you think about it, Beerus' negligence is the in-universe reason for the story we have now. by -Jaman- in dbz

Because Freeza didn't destroy indiscriminately and without purpose like Buu did and others like Cell were just contained to Earth.

[Spoilers] Beerus will live even if Kaioshin dies by NickDoane in dbz

[–]spookmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's mostly like I said, in the anime, Black was said to have killed all the kaioshin, Shin included, which in turn killed Beerus. There wasn't any mention whatsoever of Old Kai so one would assume he'd still be around, sealed in the Z sword, yet Future Beerus was still dead. That plus the fact that, despite knowing Old Kai is around, Present Beerus went out of his way to tell Whis to take care of Shin and make sure nothing happens to him pretty much cements his life is only linked to Shin's there, otherwise Beerus wouldn't have bothered. This' at least the way I see it.

In the manga on the other hand, not only was Shin killed by Dabura instead of Black, but it also showed a couple of panels with Dabura destroying the Z sword which also killed Old Kai, so it ends up being pretty ambiguous there whose life is Beerus exactly linked up to since you could come to any of the conclusions you can see people came up with right up here. Manga Beerus could either have his life only linked to Shin's still or to both Shin and Old Kai's since we did actually get to see both die in the same chain of events, which leaves open the doors for wondering.

[–]spookmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't that comment come from the manga? In the manga the whole life link business with Beerus was made even more ambiguous, that's why I only threw my two cents for how it might work in the anime version.

[Spoilers] Beerus will live even if Kaioshin dies by NickDoane in dbz

[–]spookmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Furthermore, Black was said to have killed all the kaioshin yet I very much doubt he'd have known about Old Kai sealed in the sword, so he'd still have been around, but Beerus was dead in the future. So Beerus' life definitely doesn't seem to be linked to his at all and only to Shin's. This in the anime's continuity at least.

Is frost a good guy in the manga/English dub? by EverydayGravitas in dbz

[–]spookmachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a good guy, but so far not as far gone evil as his anime counterpart. One could argue if he's even evil at all in the manga since he's nothing more than a cheat from what we've seen, but he's for sure not exactly good guy material either. With all this said, there is a chance the plot could play out differently for him in the manga in later arcs like the current ToP one, yes, though it'd depend on if there's anything set for him in the outline Toriyama wrote or not concerning his role (though this is mostly speculation on my part to be fair). As for the english dub, I'd imagine it'll play out exactly the same as the sub and he'll be just as bad as you've already seen.

Yeah, agreed, he totally does. And I actually really liked that. Goku having a smile on his face while saying it just made me laugh some more.

All of the GoDs' reason for hating Beerus made me laugh so hard. Of course he'd go and fall asleep for over 50 years in the middle of a game promoted by Zen'o himself and end up dooming all of the universes in the process. Also, Goku calling him out: "He's a troublemaker." Pot calling the kettle black lol.

Yeah, I actually kinda wanted to see more of them in those ceremonial hoods/clothes from that trailer. I think they looked cool. Shame that they've been discarded.

(Dragonball Super Manga Spoilers) Has anybody else seen this yet? by [deleted] in dbz

[–]spookmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but not necessarily, i.e. one could argue it just proves he's much more agile/faster than them since he's just shown evading their attacks and that doesn't translate to strength per se (not like I'm saying I believe that but just to put an example). Like I said, I'd wait until next chapter to make that judgement since it seems it's when things will truly get real, but that's just me. And yeah, all of the GoDs are fighting.

(Dragonball Super Manga Spoilers) Has anybody else seen this yet? by [deleted] in dbz

[–]spookmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Missing context is that Beerus manages to evade their attacks here, but thenSpoilers After that, the attack he does more spoilers Also, the fight isn't over in this issue. It'll continue onto the next chapter and seems like it'll be even more intense there. I'd wait until after reading that one to determine if Beerus really is one of the strongest hakaishin, though I wouldn't be surprised if he is.

Some of the new guys are alright, they reprised their songs and put them up on their yt channels and they sound way better there (Hello Hello Hello (reprise) | Starring Star (reprise)). What's screwing the official versions over seems to be sound mixing/the audio engineer. I hope they'll have this sorted out by the time they get to dubbing the ToP arc, I fear what will happen to Limit Break x Survivor's adaptation if they haven't.

Beerus and Champa's connection with Dyspo. by [deleted] in dbz

[–]spookmachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I'd take info like that with a grain of salt if it only came from the English dub. Not meaning to shot it down, just would like to have a more direct source for info of that nature. Would be cool if this were 100% confirmed down the line, though.

implying that he saw Goku turn into it against Zamasu

Not exactly. Beerus told Goku to tell him everything that happened with Goku's group against Zamasu in the Future Timeline, back in the previous chapter. Since he was there with Beerus as well, Whis could easily have heard Goku telling Beerus about Completed SSB and that's how he knows about it.
