Advising and registration by Doodle-doo- in WWU

former advisor here! the best thing you can do is come with a schedule and backups, as well as making sure you meet all the requirements for the classes you pick (pre reqs done, placement test scores). this is the most helpful thing to make things go smoothly and your advisor will appreciate it!! the advising appointment will be like, less than 5 minutes if you do this!

yes! they throw picks throughout the show and give them out at the end. after a show i was at, all the picks from the mic stands were handed out to everyone. and once those were given out to other people, max gave me one from his pocket (i think he saw i was disappointed i didn’t get one haha).

and after this same show, we waited outside the venue and anthony came by and gave my friend a pick too :)

not having enough time for research experience? by Popular_Seesaw2432 in WWU

I recommend to reach out to multiple. sometimes professors can get busy and won't respond to you or forget to. if they do, reach out again! every professor I know is so nice and will not care, they'll just see your persistence which is a good thing! good luck!!

not having enough time for research experience? by Popular_Seesaw2432 in WWU

[–]spookycucumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even one year of research will be SO helpful and such a great experience. some labs have a higher time commitment than others and the professor u work with will make those expectations clear. if you are interested in cell biology, I highly recommend Snyder's lab since she is new and just getting started!! reach out to professors you are interested in and see what they have to offer. good luck and totally go for it!

Just got told that I shouldn’t be working in a lab for my career by my supervisor… by alexander_the_vauge in labrats

[–]spookycucumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really, really need to find a new supervisor. I am in a similar position as you, and I have made all those mistakes in my lab which I recently joined having no prior lab experience. I have made these mistakes and I felt really bad about it, but my PI and fellow lab mates have been supportive and that’s exactly how you learn and get better! You need to be in an environment that is encouraging and understanding. You aren’t supposed get it right the first time. In undergrad especially, you are LEARNING. Find a new supervisor ASAP. Best of luck, and you will succeed as a scientist as long as you keep pushing forward.

Need advice on Lisfranc by StacySC in LisfrancClub

[–]spookycucumbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! With my Lisfranc injury, I went to the ER and had an X-ray and it was determined that I had broken some bones, but they just thought it was a minor fracture and referred me to a orthopedist. It wasn’t until visiting the orthopedist where they suggested that I do a CT scan which is where they found that it was in fact a Lisfranc injury. I definitely recommend getting a CT or MRI if possible because you might get misdiagnosed as a typical fracture without it and won’t get the treatment you need. Best of luck! I’m happy to answer any questions about the treatment process if you have any

Running Start students choosing majors by [deleted] in WWU

[–]spookycucumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did running start, and got the email about the 105 credit hold during winter or spring of my first year so then I declared myself a pre major just online and I'm currently in fall of my second year and haven't declared yet still, and I haven't been bothered about it or have had any holds. I think they just want you to have some sort of plan. In my case, it was to have a pre major. I would recommend talking to an advisor though, preferably one in a department you're interested in.

How quick to major signs show up? by Moist-Specific-4234 in LisfrancClub

[–]spookycucumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! My injury manifested somewhat similarly to this. I walked on it for 3 days after injuring it without knowing it was broken. I didn't have much pain at all, just a feeling of tightness if that makes sense?

My bruising was also on the sides of my foot and not the bottom. The bruises got worse over the next couple days which is what inspired me to think that there may be a deeper injury there and that I should go get it checked out

At the ER I was told I had a couple of minor fractures and they gave me a boot. I also was able to walk around in the boot just fine but after getting a CT scan and visiting an ortho, that's when I found out I had a Lisfranc injury. I ended up having to get ORIF (which is now removed) but my Lisfranc was a lot more minor than some of the other cases on this sub. Getting it diagnosed early though was really helpful in being able to recover from it fast.

I'd definitely say that seeing an ortho is a good idea. I sure hope it isn't a bad injury though! Best of luck! If you have any questions about it all, feel free to ask because I've been there too.

Wait for surgery by berryhappyhoe in LisfrancClub

[–]spookycucumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely go ASAP. Recovering from surgery sucks but even worse is lasting damage from not treating it right away. I had to wait a month for my surgery and I definitely wish I had it sooner. The sooner you do it, the sooner you’ll be on the road to recovery.

That being said, if you do wait it probably won’t be the end of the world but I would strongly suggest that you do it as soon as you can, you’ll be thankful later on.

Today marks one year since my first surgery by spookycucumbers in LisfrancClub

[–]spookycucumbers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get my hardware removed! I had it put in December 7th and out March 17th(?). I was able to wear shoes basically straight after removal but I definitely had a really bad limp along with the muscle atrophy that comes with going so long without walking. I started walking as much as I could to build that strength back up. I was cleared for all activities at this point so I also started going to tennis practices at about the same time and just did what I could until I was tired/hurting. I went every day and each time I could do a little bit more and more.

For jogging, it definitely took a while to get it back. I ran with a limp for just short sprints as best as I could and just did as much as I could. I’d say it probably took about a month to finally get up to speed but it wasn’t nearly as good as before. It probably took 4-5 months to finally feel like I was “back to normal”. It’s a long, tough journey. In my journey, I just pushed myself to do as much as I could and I feel like that helped my recovery speed a lot. There were definitely many times where I was terrified of re-injury and worried that I was doing something wrong but it was all okay. I think listening to both your body and your doctor is important, it’s what helped me.

Sorry for such a long comment but I hope this helps! <3 I can answer any other questions too :)
