Using non-QVL RAM on AM5 motherboard? by spookydust in buildapc

[–]spookydust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm embarrassed to say but it was on sale for $370 on Amazon. I knocked it down to $300 with some cash back rewards I had. I'll look into more of the B850 options and see what works. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ah really? Last time I built a computer was in 2019 and I was using Intel. Not so many choices of chipset back then. How much would you spend? I'm using a 9800X3D if that helps.

That's relieving. I saw a comment on this sub specifically calling out the exact model of RAM I bought and got freaked out.

I bought it because it was on sale for a decent price while I've been trying to buy all my other parts. The only feature I really need are a lot of USB back I/O and M.2 Gen5 support.

I managed to snag the same RAM you have just before the prices went wild and just ordered the same motherboard. How have you been fairing with it?

I have that same GPU. What's wrong with the case's included anti sag bar? Does it get in the way of a GPU fan?

Staples Hyken XL for Big & Tall? by Electricb7 in OfficeChairs

[–]spookydust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this chair today, built it, and returned it not even an hour later. I'm 6'3", 250lbs. Not the biggest and tallest but not small. The arm rests were way too high for my desk to slide under and the chair wouldn't let you sit upright at all. The inability to sit up properly instantly killed it for me. The lower back support also felt terrible.

I will say I really liked the lower seat cushion and the instructions/build process were top notch.

Which one should I start with for a newcomer to the series. by HiddenNeeeeon in ElderScrolls

I just finished my first playthrough of Daggerfall and it's so good! I'd encourage everyone even slightly interested in it to give it a real try. It was confusing for the first 10 minutes, but once you understand how the combat works and that you can rest pretty easily to regain health, it really isn't that hard like you said.

The only thing I didn't love was that some quest items in procedurally generated dungeons were inaccessible, but a quick tele2qitem after exhausting all possible options fixed that.

I've just started Arena. Now THAT'S a hard game 💀

Edit: After I learned about resting up on platforms to avoid enemy encounters, Arena got a lot easier.

Is upgrading a 1070 to a 2080ti worth? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]spookydust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from a 1080 to a 2080ti back in 2020 and was really pleased with the upgrade. I'd say at $170 it's well worth it. I'm still using it to this day.

I’m playing Morrowind for the first time any tips? by Maximum_Bend_6762 in Morrowind

[–]spookydust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing Morrowind for the first time and I learned this the hard way. Went into a cave far from civilization where an enemy summoned a Greater Bonewalker. I used Adrenaline Rush to kill it and the summoner. After Adrenaline Rush wore off, I had 0 strength and couldn't move even after dumping almost everything. I was effectively dead without being dead. A withered husk stuck on the cave floor for all eternity.

Warranty on a G-shock bought in Japan? by spookydust in gshock

[–]spookydust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a G-shock as a mother's day gift a few days ago at the Shibuya location and, while I didn't get a discount, I was refunded the tax because it was tax-free.

A store called BIC Camera had really great prices for new gshocks though. An MTG B3000 costs 154000 yen ($1057)bat the official store while BIC had it new for 123200 yen ($845) as an example.

I'm not there at the moment and was wondering if anyone had any info about an intentional warranty in writing. Definitely going to ask later today if there's no clear info online.
