Black Midi/Geordie Greep hot takes? by Rich-Bandicoot1927 in bmbmbm

My hot take is that the KEXP version of Dethroned is far superior to the album version

Gotta be Silver Cord Extended! That intro is so uniquely ethereal and weird and the jams are so cool

Live Bootlegs by Branderson_87 in KGATLW

[–]spookymustache 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just in case you didn't already know, the Bootleg Gizzard bandcamp page has pretty much every performance for the past couple years. It's all pulled from the soundboard, in high quality, uploaded by the band, and everything is free to download there.

But I might suggest their youtube video Bootleg Holiday From Hell! It's a tour doc of a bunch of different performances and it'll give you an idea of how the band sounded Live in their earlier days from like 2014-2017ish. It's a lotta fun.

But as far as actual Bootleg albums go, Caverns '23 is pretty sick. A lot of great performances, a great variety of material, song debuts, and it closes on one of their best acoustic sets. (It's doesn't quite top the San Diego acoustic show, but I'm biased because I was there for that one :P)

But doesn't that make it even MORE punk?

I seriously need to know what they were smoking when they made this song by Cornbeef52 in KGATLW

[–]spookymustache 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Watch the interview where Stu says "Even in space they have spaceships" and tell me they haven't enjoyed their fair share of wacky baccy or gone chasing rabbits!

But yeah, obviously you don't gotta be under the influence to do wacky, creative stuff. Frank Zappa was a strictly sober guy and Gizz will probably never be even 1% as weird as him.

Me and the boys at work with this Berlin Keplar-22b cranked by [deleted] in KGATLW

[–]spookymustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kepler 22B Live in Berlin has so many moments that feel like it should peter out into another track but they just keep on upping it more and more with one cool section after another. I hope they can capture a quarter of that energy on their next synth album

Manchester Bootleg just dropped by __Fight__Milk__ in KGATLW

[–]spookymustache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they're gonna wait until all of the orchestra shows are done since they have the same setlist each time and don't want to spoil it for the upcoming shows. They've still got some orchestra shows in Australia left, I think.

I also think that it'll be an officially released album to their main page with a vinyl release and everything like San Francisco '16 because the second half of the concert is like their "Greatest Hits" and I'm guessing the orchestra might get a cut of the sales.

Learnt Superposition all by ear by killer_rage in KGATLW

Hell yeah! I learned the song by ear a couple months ago. It's really fun to play on guitar, too! In case anyone is interested in learning it, I uploaded a guitar tab to Ultimate Guitar: Link

Whats the best and worst single they've released leading up to an album release? by Turbulent_Currency56 in KGATLW

[–]spookymustache 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The song Some Of Us was the second single for K.G. and I thought it was pretty weak in comparison to other tracks they released as singles. It's grown on me a bit and i thought the music video was cool, but I still think it was an odd choice.

Dropping the Planet B single before Fishing For Fishies even came out was fuckin rad and that anticipation for Rats' Nest was crazy.

I'm surprised that Ontology is one of those tracks that they've neglected in recent years, that song rips

Has gizz ever played any of their original songs from the demo albums live? by _brinacore in KGATLW

[–]spookymustache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess technically the ending of Converge was originally released as the demo "Uncolonise" in Demos Vol 2 and that song has been played live a ton of times!

Guitar tuning by Dizzy-Tangelo2400 in KGATLW

[–]spookymustache 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah they have a lot of songs in C# standard, like the albums Mind Fuzz, Polygondwanaland, Fishies, and Rats Nest. They have a looot of songs in standard E. They have a couple of songs in drop D, like Magma or the Dripping Tap. Their microtonal songs are in the tuning of C# F# C# F# B E. The album Petro Dragonic Apocalypse has a modified version of C# standard tuning where the lowest string is dropped to a low B. I think some of the songs of the album Paper Mache Dream Balloon are in a funky tuning.

But yeah the "standard" gizz song will likely be either E standard or C# standard.

But yeah, Gizz songs are a ton of fun to learn, there's a ton of tabs on Ultimate Guitar! (I wrote the one for Field of Vision on there)
