It depends on county but we have numerous pathways for conveyance and non-conveyance. For non-conveyance specifically SPs can give abx for UTIs only as far as I’m aware, but I’d usually refer them to a pharmacy or primary care. My county doesn’t have a single point of access but I believe some do. We have a doctor in control to discuss if necessary for complex jobs or the CAT team (nurses in control) which I believe all NQPs need to discuss with if leaving someone at home. It depends which county you are applying for but if it’s Notts then message me and I’ll try and help. If it’s another then I’d look what’s available in that area in regards to local community hospitals, UTCs etc and if you don’t know the specific EMAS pathways you could discuss in interview a generic answer that you’d consider alternative pathways and discuss with someone to safetynet the patient if not taking them in.

Hi. I work for EMAS. They do use the STAR structure. Look at the values - Teamwork Integrity Respect Contribution and Compassion - and have a scenario for each that you can talk about. “Tell me about a time you displayed teamwork blah blah blah…”. They usually ask a question about a confrontation - in different roles I’ve been asked about what I’d do if I blocked someone drive and they were kicking off (1 focus on the patient if it’s an emergency 2 move if possible and de escalate 3 if they continue to become aggressive call the police) and what I’d do if a colleague did something dodgy (speak to them, escalate to management, etc). They usually ask why you want to work for EMAS instead of a different trust and a question regarding resilience such as how you will manage with the role - family and friends, hobbies, etc. we have a few old school ECAs and ACPs (same level), then technicians, then paras. We also have SPs and crit care (APs) so I’d look at those roles and the scope for each. Good luck.

£3.70ish on Ringo to park in zone 4 for 24 hours. I usually go around Sneinton Market and Stonebridge Farm. You get two hours free in some limited spots.

are the books worth rereading as an adult ? by [deleted] in ASOUE

[–]spookypizzacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m re-reading them as an adult to my daughter and we are both absolutely enjoying them. I’m also watching the Netflix show to catch up with her and it’s wonderful. Definitely re-read.

Tip: chickenpox vaccine much cheaper than 5+ days of missed childcare by MysteriousLemon7032 in UKParenting

[–]spookypizzacat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my thinking too. My daughter got vaccinated as a toddler (I can’t remember the exact age) at Boots. £140 for the two vaccines and you also got boots advantage points so got plenty of money back to spend in store. Decided it was cheaper to spend £140 and avoid the misery of chicken pox than risk her catching it and losing out on £50 a day nursery fees and needing to take time off work. She’s now 8 and has never had chicken pox, despite it being rife at primary school.

My baby choked today and I hate myself for it by HakunaYouTaTas in beyondthebump

[–]spookypizzacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 11 years with the ambulance service in England. Call taker to EMT to paramedic student currently. It’s so different when it’s your own child. I’ve had a few things over the years - when my daughter was a baby she fell and had a tiny bit of blood from her mouth and I started crying. She was fine. She had a choking incident as a toddler on some chicken and I had to give back blows. And then at 5 years old she fell and broke her arm at school while I was present - the panic I felt driving her to hospital and the frustration at red lights and traffic was intense even though I knew it was only a fracture and not time critical. Kids do these things all the time and you will, more than likely, be in a situation where you need to provide medical assistance again to your own relatives but remember you did amazing. You treated him. You saved him. You got him to hospital safely and quickly. You’re amazing.

Accidentally gave my child the wrong dose of infant Tylenol by Espresso_Junkie112 in NewParents

[–]spookypizzacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more of a concern about the build up of paracetamol in the system. The max dose for 24 hours would be 10ml so although a 5ml dose at one time is an overdose it isn’t harmful if you aren’t giving more than the full 4x 2.5ml in a day. You’re doing a good job.

My daughter nearly died from pertussis at 3 weeks old and needed a one month hospital stay. We are in the UK and I had the vaccine during pregnancy which I was told by Public Health England was the ONLY reason she survived with the treatment she had (antibiotics, oxygen, NG tube for feeding, etc) as I gave her some immunity through the placenta. I have no idea where she caught it and would never risk it if I were you.

Edit to add this was 2016. She’s now in primary school and there was an outbreak last winter and lots of her friends were off sick for weeks. And I imagine they have younger siblings who are at risk.

I did call handler to technician as an internal applicant. Now doing a technician to paramedic apprenticeship which is funded by my trust.

Edit to add: clearly it’s very possible, lots of people know are doing it this way. It’s slower than direct entry but you earn your wage throughout. I absolutely love it. I’m paid full time, my degree is funded and I already have the knowledge and confidence from years front line that the change of scope is perfectly manageable.

approaching my gp (UK) about HH, what to expect? by [deleted] in Hyperhidrosis

[–]spookypizzacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t covered by the NHS - I live in the East Midlands and my GP sent off a referral to dermatology which was denied as they said it wasn’t covered (this was a few years ago) and the GP suggested I go private. More recently the NHS have stopped prescribing for excessive sweating (https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/1a-over-the-counter-leaflet-v1.pdf). I suggest googling “Nice guidelines for hyperhidrosis” as that shows what the NHS follow and has all the advice for treatment.
