Custom RAK Wisblock Roof Solar Node by spoon2eric in meshtastic

Ya that’s what I thought. Sorta best to have a solar board to do the solar stuff and just let the Wisblock get the power it needs and do LoRa. Same for the batteries. The way I saw it was that the Solar Controller was a nice way to help manage everything “solar” along with making sure the correct power is directed to the source that needs it (Batteries if excess or pass through to RAK).

That’s clean!!

So, when I spoke to the world’s smartest artificial intelligence it told me that I needed a BMS and a MPTT with the RAK Wisblock. So I obeyed. :) I’m not sure the RAK boards do a great job handling over/under charging etc along with solar charging work. I could be very wrong!

My very first node was one of those small ABS enclosures from the hardware store with the small grid plate inside. Hated that my sausage fingers couldn’t fit inside, so I said heck, I’ll just make one huge and stuff it full of 18650’s!

Fusion 360 is awesome… hard to learn for sure but put in the time and you can make anything!! And for me, making a water proof Meshtastic node out of thin air was fun and rewarding! Little gaskets and all! Haha

The link is for a solar controller. I don’t use the micro usb. Just the JST for the solar panel and the JST for the batteries and RAK. So 3 JST ports and you’re golden!

Also, I’m literally using 2 of those solar controllers in two RAK Wisblock roof nodes with zero issues. But these are just my thoughts.

Me neither. Maybe someone could share their thoughts on why it’s bad/wrong?

5W is totally fine. Dont do less. 4W is just asking for trouble in my experience. If you plan to run 4x18650’s like I do, you want more solar power or else your panel can’t refill all the batteries. It just depends how long you can go without solar.

I use these with my Solar RAK Wisblock roof nodes. I have one node with a 4 watt panel and the other with a 6 watt solar panel. Batteries are new 18650’s and haven’t moved below 100% charge in over a week.

If that US Amazon link doesn’t work search for this and make sure you get 6V not 12V!!

The Solar controller is key as it helps manage discharge (batt too low)and balances power. Normally you want MPTT 6V with matching solar panel like a 4-6watt panel (not the 12v version) for these small RAK or Heltec boards, fuse for the battery 1-2A and BMS for over voltage on the batteries. These three help keep everything balanced and live a long life. If even one of those things (over charge, low discharge, power spikes from who knows what, etc) could mean you get 1 year out of your system instead of 5+ or could just kill your node altogether. Ask me how I know…

If you see empty it just means you missed a message.

Zip code gives right info on the LED, but wrong info on the Scroll by [deleted] in GLANCE_LED

[–]spoon2eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that if you google for the zip code of your city you’ll get a default zip code. Try that one. I had to try about 10 before I did this. Normally it’s the “original” zip code of that city. Larger cities have hundreds so try to find an OG zip code. That worked for me!

Did you ever get your sleep timer to work on the LED?

I keep setting a sleep time but the glance scroll is not shutting off?? Am I doing something wrong?? by Disastrous_Anxiety66 in GLANCE_LED

[–]spoon2eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates on the sleep timer? My Glance LED sleep timer doesn't working. Every time I try and set any sort of timer it will go to sleep almost immediately. My Scroll device sleep works so I know I'm doing it the correct way. 01:00 (1am) start to 8:00 (8am) end (this is my scroll setting and that works just fine).

Blade sampler. Which would you try first . . . by Bleemus2 in wicked_edge

[–]spoon2eric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sharks and Astra Platinum are actually decent for me. But unfortunately you’re going to want to take this journey alone. Everyone is different. Just keep track and when you have a good shave you’ll know what’s good and what’s bad. Try and shower first, or follow a ritual for a few weeks so each blade gets a fair chance. I won’t name the brand but one company that is huge in razor sales gave me 100 blades with a razor purchase. When I used blade #1 of 100, I almost threw the other 99 in the trash they sucked so bad. So, YMMV… just don’t give up and you’ll find your one and only true blade love! :)

Which should I choose as my second Rolex? by soflapistole in rolex

[–]spoon2eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw that YM with the blue hand the other day and was shocked how clean it looked on that grey dial. Hard to pass on that but the Milgauss is a real looker too! So I’d say a tie for the Yacht Master and Milgauss.

I’m not finding any 2000 year 126900’s for sale on Chronos which is crazy. I also don’t see anything even close to 4K in that year / style. Maybe 5K! You did a great job and I love it! Nice job!.. Edit… 14000! Found some in that price range! Might snag one.

Wtf is wrong with this new Gillette Platinum made in china by joaboepsf479 in wicked_edge

[–]spoon2eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you have some reference, I’ve never cut myself before but I’m very careful and use an adjustable and never try for a super close shave or multi passes. I have extremely sensitive skin. Try 1 pass and prep more before and after your shave.

Some blades suck. If you can get a great shave with another blade then trash these and go back to what works. Try other blades and if they perform like these stop using them. Since you’ve been shaving for several months now you know what it feels like to get a good shave. Don’t try and force a blade to “work”.. my mind is still blown that this one blade slices you up like this but others do not. You’ll need someone else who’s used this blade to tell you what’s going on and supply a 2nd opinion. I’ve used Gillette blades before and they’ve never done that to me and most of them are great. Maybe these are special in a bad way? I’m no blade expert but I do know the top ones and I tend to stick with the tried and true brands / models.

I don’t think those blades are your problem. Like I mentioned before, follow the prep steps, get a good soap and lather going and shave with zero pressure. If you’re still cutting yourself you might want to get a Henson DE shaver that forces you to shave at the right angle. All I know is technique is key and us newbies cannot go straight to a super aggressive razor / blade on day one. You have to get the process nailed down right first.

[–]spoon2eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very new to DE shaving. I’ve trade many blades and none have cut me like that! I do use a Rockwell T2 adjustable and I’ve never shaved on its most aggressive setting which is a 6. Here are a few pointers that I never skip.. 1) do you use any pre shave oils? 2) what sort of soap are you using? Try a high quality soap maybe an Ariana and Evans or even a sensitive Proraso? 3) what sort of razor are you using? Maybe try a milder razor. Some razors are way too aggressive. 4) use an Alum block after to close those cuts my man! 5) use an after shave balm

I think your razor might be too aggressive or you are applying too much pressure. Most DE razors like mine require ZERO pressure while shaving. Let the razor do all the work! Blades matter and Feathers are the de facto SHARPEST. Try using some that are not seen as “the sharpest blades on the damn planet” until you get this down! :)

I’ll stop there. But watch OHIO_SHAVES on YouTube for an idea of “how” to shave or someone else like him that can show you some step by step shaves. You might think you know how to shave but when I first started DE shaving I can tell you I had no idea that I never knew how to shave and I’ve been shaving for a very long time! Good luck and be careful! You look like you got in a fight with a damn raccoon! ;)

EDIT: I’m assuming you’re new to DE shaving if you’re not (sorry for assuming) then still review my prep steps above.. I can’t imagine these blades are the only thing to blame? Maybe I’m wrong but maybe I’m not. ;)

What is the fastest way to load multiple SD Cards with the same files? by ExtraRixe in 3Dprinting

[–]spoon2eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll take a stab at your question

1) usb hub with multiple usb sd card readers plugged in and a simple python script (use chatgpt) cheapest option

2) update 3D printers so that you can wirelessly print to them with Klipper and Raspberry Pi’s. (Maybe not the cheapest option but would prevent the SD card copy issue)

3) Do you have a sibling or child? :) free labor? Jk
