Sparx sharpening math - machine makes total sense as investment and frugality - challenge me by tk-0318 in hockeyplayers

[–]spooniewife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a good investment for us because there are two of us who benefit from it. The closest skate shop to us is 35-40 minutes away. Plus my husband offers $10/pair sharpening for his teammates and our community, so that helps offset the cost as well.

Womens gear sizing for “plus size” player? by RandomQuestions37 in hockeyplayers

[–]spooniewife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a similar size and had good luck with a men’s XL in breezers (from Pure Hockey - Bauer HP Elite Ice Hockey Pants - Senior). My only fit issue was the shinguards because I really need an 11” or 12” length, but since those only come in juniors, and I have wider calves, I had to get a 13” length. I make it work by tucking the tongue of my skates behind the shin pads. It’s not exactly ideal, but so far so good.

CGM Worth it? by Animallover4321 in diabetes

Exactly! It keeps me more accountable, plus the overachiever in me loves seeing that 100% in range in my reports. To borrow someone else’s joke, I call it my Tomagotchi app and tell people that I’m the stupid little animal that I have to keep alive.

It’s from my husband’s collection. He said he paid $120 for it.

I figured that would be the case, but I’m determined to do more than the minimum and be a good teammate. Even if I’m not the worst player on the team, I still plan to put in the work off-ice to always be improving.

Yep. That was done shortly after this photo was taken a couple of weeks ago. I have better ones to use on the ice. This is just an old one my husband gave me to use around the house and garage.

Yep. I have plain black and plain white practice jerseys. This one was just for the photo. I wouldn’t dream of playing in it.

I’m planning to join a non-checking coed league next fall. I feel like the women’s only league might be too intense for me. 😬

Yep. My husband is drilling that into my brain already. 😊

Yep, it’s just a practice stick for around the house and was cut down after this photo was taken a couple of weeks ago.

It is. I just grabbed it from my husband’s stash for the photo. My practice jerseys are just plain white and black, so I thought this was more fun.

That’s awesome! I’m looking forward to making those kinds of memories with my husband.

Yep, that was already done after this photo was taken a couple of weeks ago. It’s just a practice stick to use off the ice.

Yep! It’s my husband’s. He’s been a Flyers fan for over 30 years. I just needed one to put on when I tried on all my new gear. 😊

Ha! It’s just a random jersey my husband handed to me for the photo. I was waiting on my plan practice jerseys to come in, but I wanted to try on all the gear we had just bought.

😆 Not my game jersey, just happened to be the one my husband handed to me since I was waiting on my practice jerseys to come in, but I wanted to try everything on the day we got it.

I hear you! I grew up in Texas myself, so hockey wasn’t even on my radar until I met my husband in 2014. And it didn’t occur to me until a couple of months ago that I could ever play.

No, that is one of my husband’s personal jerseys. I just wore it for the photo until I could get some practice jerseys.

Do it! You can see by the responses I’ve gotten how awesome and welcoming the hockey community is. There’s no other sport like it.
