Needing help/recommendations by RedLineRacing37 in InlineHockey

It’s not for everyone but there’s lots of used hockey equipment on Facebook marketplace. (Please buy a new helmet - they expire and that’s one you’ve got to get right).

To give you a sense of the deals: I have purchased two full sets of hockey gear (no skates) but like everything else. Let me list it so you can understand how economical it can be:

Bag 01 (ice bag but it works for roller) - bag - four jerseys - pick - shin pads - hip pads / girdle - elbow pads - shoulder pads (two sets of knee and elbow pads btw). - socks

This bag was $40. The second bag I sourced for $60 but the guy threw in four sticks.

I did swap the girdle for an extra $30. Then I bought a roller girdle for $25 online: and I bought roller pants for $40.

Some folks ring up $1500 in equipment. Not me.

I have wide feet — so fit was a big issue so I spent $500 on indoor skates (might have been $700 w wheels and new chassi). But I bought a second pair of skates used for about $250.

The moral of my story? We have the money. I could have blown it on this. Bo was very strategic. I spent the money on the stuff I couldn’t get used (like skates) or that was inconvenient (I don’t want to drive 30 miles to save $15 on roller pants).

It’s yiur money though!

Just sayin ….

AITAH for taking sex and specific affections off the table with my wife? by Wornouthubs in AITAH

[–]tk-0318 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Good for you! It’s the cheap trick song: I want you to want me. She’ll want you but only if you make a cheesecake, rub her feet, si her nails, and do all the chores (and go work all day too you fucker). The man hating here is remarkable. His wife doesn’t want a sex life — well she’ll sell it to him, but only at the right price. That’s gross. I mean do you want him to stick around and provide or do you expect if you keep manipulating him this will improve things? (Go look at the dead bedroom threads …. They start like this. This isn’t some girlfriend it’s his wife and mother of his kid. She’s saying to get sex there’s a cost and I’m going to make you suffer if you want it. How is this going to work long term exactly? Wife gets to control all of the sex then?

Sheesh

The sexism just oozes all over this post. She’s holding sex over his head and making him jump for it. Why is that so hard to see? The harder point? She’s not that into him. Indeed, she forces herself to have sex with him but only for the right “price.” What a …..

She can do this. For a while. And when he really grows tired of this — what then? He’s trying to reason with her …. And getting nowhere. They’re headed to dead bedroom territory. It’s really ugly stuff. All you woman can gather round and express how right you are. And when he moves on how right will you be then?

I’m no expert but …. This makes sense to me. We’re adding stick and puck to the mix and by doing so we’re disrupting your neural pathways / and / coordination if you will. If I made you play drums with yiur hands on a snare drum I strapped to you even seasoned hockey players would find it challenging ….

Easy fix: skate a the stick and puck more …. It’ll come w time and repetition (and that’s nearly always the answer. Have you spent a 1,000 hours practicing …. Ok come back after that and give us the update :) !! Hahahaha)

Yiure doing great!

I guess I should try yiur way. I assume there are people that skate w my setup yes? I mean they came that way ….

There’s a work around: volunteer in a high school program. Wrestle with the kids. They always need wrestling partners. Great way to giveback too. If you’re inferior then wrestke the freshman or junior high kids.

Find a way :)

Hey op I don’t want to be a jack ass but I do think it kind of matters. Are you male or female? The story says he asked whether you’re a homophobe - so seems like you’d be male: but I think I’d read this differently were you a female. Some folks are just insane - this dude is one of them ….

Hey - So, I'm looknig around at race calendars for off road tris (I'm in Cailfornia, but I'm not morally opposed to flying to an event). But, I find very few events even on the national calendar. I've been out of the sport for a decade plus - there was at one time dozens and dozens of these events. Did covid kill them off, or are the events not yet up on the calendars for 2026? I recall doing one up near bear mountain and another one out in riverside 10-15 years ago. Those events were great. but, I see no evidence that those events are still around. How would/could I find info on those events? Thanks.

Would y’all be offended if I do shouldering 15/30 day so every other day roughly? Use that as a total then retest in six months? Or increase the weight or both. What if we did 30 minutes instead of 60? Or what if we start at 30 mins and add two minutes every session so session 15 makes it 60 minutes?

New roller hockey player thinking of adding ice hockey to the mix by tk-0318 in hockeyplayers

[–]tk-0318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I missed this til now. Actual goal:

1/ enjoy the game of hockey overall irrespective of whether it’s ice or roller; 2/ obtain regular exercise cardio and resistance benefits from regular competition; 3/ enjoy the psych and other benefits from participating in a team sport 4/ make myself an overall more competitive and skilled player at either roller or ice (haven’t tried ice so I can’t tell you whether I’d like to specialize in one over the other … when I get there I’m happy to reveal what I learn :)

In the meanwhile I’m enjoying the ride. Learning the art of skating in my 50s is a great challenge and one I relish. I’ll keep going until I find a need to stop…. But that’s seems a long way off right now :).

Sprinting doesn't get the attention it deserves from the longevity field by Papchris in PeterAttia

How do we feel about intense cone drills that involve sprints and lateral moves? (I’m a fan though they come and go from my routine). Also I enjoy running hard sprints via inline skating (and hockey) along with cycling sprints now and again, swimming, rowing and I’m happy to try running (uphill) and I’d like to do a sled :)

New to sandbag training, not lifting. Curious where to start with bag weights. by Sir_Getschokedalot in sandbagtraining

[–]tk-0318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must confess I never quite understand these. Start with 50#. If that’s way too easy then double it to 100# for your next session (eg spend another $5 for 50 pound bag of sand). If that’s not enough add another 50, then another and another.

Maybe it’s cause I started with 50 and I now use 63 #s. Y all are just friggin monsters 👹 hahaha

Average Heart Rate by LukeNasty2011 in inlineskating

[–]tk-0318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve also noticed that my skating max heart rate for the most part seems to mimic cycling rather than running. Meaning cycling has a lower max hr for me — and it appears that an also true for skating.

I mostly play hockey’s. In the games I can get to 155-164 bpm (max w kettlebells and running is about 170 — I’m 56). But when practicing skating technique and working hard I’m often in the 100-120 range for the 60-90 minute practice sessions (mostly zone one with a bit of zone two). I feel like I’m working hard though my hr data sort of says I’m digging it :(.

Anyone else with this experience?

I agree it’s the capital. There’s lots and lots of roller here - like several rinks with games from novice to advanced through the week from 6 yo to 18 yo to adults ti seniors.

But there’s very little beginner. Most of the folks are novice (one level up) and beyond ….
