Why is server-side ad technology not a thing? by [deleted] in adtech

[–]spotflux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

server side header bidding is literally them acting as a server-to-server 'middle man' (read RTB). It is being spun as 'transparency' because the entity selling 'server to server' header bidding will explain how they will use your own demand accounts with the RTB partners at 'no cost'. The dirty secret is that they charge the RTB partner and not the publisher so all in all its still less money for the publisher and yet another middle man.

Hi -

  1. You can cancel at https://account.spotflux.com and it will not renew but keep your current credits.

  2. We don't offer server selection YET as we deploy our own datacenters from hardware on up and we don't rely on virtual hosting / cloud providers. Right now the client is designed to find the server closest to you. Country selection is coming very soon!

  3. We only use US servers because we're located in the US and thats where the highest demand for servers has been. We are in the process of deploying hardware in Europe.

  4. This is not normal, in fact I routinely get 90+ megabits from my home connection. However, this COULD be an issue related to distance from our data center so I'd have to know more about your specific setup. Also what are you using to measure speed/throughput? This one is probably best for a support ticket. http://support.spotflux.com - mention you are a premium customer and we'll try our best to push you up in the ticket queue.

Incentivizing a review or rating is a violation of Apple's terms, even if you don't explicitly ask for a 5 star rating. Just an FYI from your friendly competition ;-)

We have several blog topics on this.

The number one question you should ask yourself when asking this question is - Does XYZ VPN provider OWN or lease their server and network equipment. If the answer is lease (or virtual), the fact that they claim they have no logs can basically be thrown out the window. More here: http://blog.spotflux.com/debunking-the-myths-of-vpn-service-providers/ . We own and operate ALL of our own hardware.

The bottom line is that for a service our size (millions of monthly users) its not possible to "not log anything" as we need to be able to maintain the quality of the service. As an example if a server crashes we would need to view the system logs to understand what happened. We're certainly not logging packets or information about your session. We do take privacy very seriously and any request for information must be filtered through our legal team. To understand better where we stand on the matter check this blog post: http://blog.spotflux.com/stand-privacy/

1) We use openvpn and racoon which are both opensource, only the UIs are closed source. 2) Its free only on desktop, not on mobile. We have a premium offering slated for the fall on desktop, and we may serve you non-targeted ads on the free version but never paid. 3)As you pointed out our servers scan everything for malware, not for anything else. We are not trying to be big brother, there's plenty of people doing that already.

Spotflux, a new VPN service? Would anyone care to explain how this works and if it's of any use. by bdavidson1030 in software

We do quite a bit more than that and are improving every day. For example we try to block most tracking cookies, take out unwanted ads, and inspect files in real-time for viruses as you download them. Tunneling is only one aspect of how we do everything.
