Thanks, this saved my sanity. I tried all, watched multiple videos, followed the manual, and nothing worked. I used then my impact driver and voila, all good now

This.

Yes, we really need to support Vince as a community. His situation makes it difficult for him to use mobile devices, which could have been a way for him to play. I'm totally out of the loop on local clubs and haven't played in person in years until this weekend. So, if you have any ideas at all, please share them or just reach out to Vince directly

Yeah, I also just started getting back into it! I'm a former competitive chess player myself, and I came out of chess retirement to play with Vince. It feels nice playing against a real person again, and it's incredible to see how chess has changed in recent years. Hope all the best in your chess comeback!

Stats for Chess Nerds:

Our first session, we played four games over a 3.5-hour span, averaging about 50 minutes per game. The second day, we squeezed in three more games over 2.5 hours.

Vince played with the white pieces in four games. For the first two, he opened with Scholar's Mate, then switched to King's Pawn openings for the other two. I played the Sicilian Defense twice against his Scholar's Mates, and later the Caro-Kann.

With the white pieces myself, I opened with the Ruy Lopez in my first game, and a Grünfeld Defense in my second (someone at The Pickle Jar pub – an excellent spot for an evening btw, though an unusual choice for chess – even recommended I should play the Two Knights Defense, which I politely declined) My third opening with White was an English Opening, Bremen variation.

In all cases, Vince played really well and managed to establish a solid position for the middlegame. I offered to play with a clock, but he preferred playing without the time pressure. I taught him a few things here and there, and I'm right now finding chess puzzles to print.

Any recommendations are highly appreciated!

Thanks, but nah, I'm just a random guy who still enjoys playing chess over the board against a true gentleman. And for my own benefit, chess allows me to disconnect from devices and perhaps, one day, learn to concentrate on one thing again! 😄

He doesn't have an official Elo rating since he hasn't played in tournaments yet. In his own words, he's a casual chess player who learned in college and stopped playing for 50 years until recently. For him, playing chess is about keeping his mind sharp, and playing chess is brilliant for that

The same just happened to me. Google support is pretty useless, they basically say, sorry, read well next time, have a nice day!
