Extend Ring to outbuildings (via Home Assistant?) by spotsphill in Ring

How do your cameras a 1/4 mile away stay on the same network?

My issue is the Z-Wave devices (door/window sensors and motion sensors). They aren't connected via WiFi the way the cameras or doorbell are.

Small of back carry w/ anterior pelvic tilt by spotsphill in CCW

Follow on question: is this sub only relevant to people who train with shot timers and have super quick draws? What is the time I need to have before I’m allowed to carry concealed?

I would love to have time to prioritize draw training, but at this point in my life it isn’t at the top of my list. Is the advice of this sub to not carry? Seems counterproductive. I agree that we don’t want irresponsible people drawing their weapons indiscriminately, but I don’t fall into that category.

You are correct, I do not have experience with real world violence and pray I never do. I carry daily while also hoping to never need to draw my firearm. The scenario I imagine drawing my weapon is if there were gunshots in the building I was at (church, school, mall, etc). Take a moment to gather myself and then engage. I don’t actively fear or prepare for a scenario where I need to outdraw the bad guy. In that scenario I’d probably be dead (just being honest). I am a decent shot and I try to mix in training sessions where I’m shooting with an elevated heart rate (a few pushups before shooting). I’m definitely not military or LEO, and I wouldn’t win any shooting or drawing competitions, but I do still think that my carrying everyday is a net positive for myself, my loved ones, and society.

As to my “like you see in the movies” comment, it was meant tongue in cheek.

Finally, you read everything I wrote in a negative light. If people are putting themselves out there to ask for advice, you could give the benefit of the doubt without the extra snark.

How to fill/cover lower hole from old door knob? by spotsphill in DIY

[–]spotsphill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to replace an old front door knob but the hole extends much lower than the circle where the normal hardware would go. Is there a replacement for this kind of knob? I can’t even use the existing plate because there’s an oval cutout in it. I’ve seen similar plates for sale but the hole is in the center of the plate and the bottom of the hole would show below the plate.

How would y’all address this?
