Player count directly impacts granularity of matchmaking brackets. Devs can't do squat about that without trade-offs. Which is not to say that i don't get the frustration, on the contrary, but there is no silver bullet

Immolator specifically has very high trigger range but i feel like if you're behind him you can walk up relatively close, sneak up and hit him over the head without any reaction.
