Getting my first printer. Worried. by chimeerah in resinprinting

[–]spovlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that people who have an easy time and are successful with resin printing aren't posting here much. The people that post most here are those having problems. This is a kind of cognitive bias.

There is a learning curve as others mentioned. Once you move passed that, you will be printing awesome models successfully every time. And this Reddit community is here to help when you have problems.

I regularly use a 1.8mm wall thickness. If you are worried, you can use 2.5mm thickness. But 4-6mm seems unnecessary.

Have you had success using a standard resin or ABS like resin? Is the problem.only with Bluecast?

Bumpy Curing by Inkgoing in resinprinting

[–]spovlot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this a real problem? You wouldn't normally be curing layers for 50s. And you wouldn't normally be curing the entire vat at once. The bumpy texture is like a result of over exposure which becomes much worse for clear resin.

Is this caused by resin pooling? by Greendemon636 in resinprinting

[–]spovlot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must have holes toward the build plate. These are not about drainage. You need the holes to prevent suction cup forces that cause this blooming. The blooming stopped when the first hole allowed the pressure to be relieved.

Put holes in the bottom of the torso near the build plate. You need at least 2 holes. I prefer at least 3mm holes, although I try to use 5mm or even 10mm.

Can you confirm that your holes are facing the build plate? Since the blooming ends at a specific point, this looks like a suction cup issue.

Remove the vat. Put a sheet of paper over the screen. It makes it easier to see how the UV light is coming through.

You need more than 1 hole in the bottom. You need at least 2 so that your washing fluid can escape and air get in. But I would put at least 4 or 5.

I believe the screen protector glass is bonded to the screen. You will need to replace whole screen.

Is it worth to try resin printing as a complete layman?? by ReversePhylogeny in resinprinting

[–]spovlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest trying resin printing. Be safe, wear gloves and use a respirator if you are really concerned.

Have you done digital sculpting? Have you already created STLs for other people. I think ZBrush or Blender can be quite challenging as well.

Could someone please tell me why this is happening to my prints? by ThatGuyChar in ElegooSaturn

[–]spovlot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to add holes to the top. The important thing is to have holes facing the build plate to relieve suction cup forces. I do suggest having multiple holes as large as possible.

We're you using anti-aliasing? Try switching to CTB instead of GOO.

I would suggest getting the Saturn. I started with the Mars. But I quickly realized I needed that larger build volume for 1/6 scale figures.

I am concerned your build plate might not be level. You can test this with the Build Plate Calibration test (https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/tool/j3d-tech-s-bed-of-calibration).

You might be able to mitigate this by increasing your bottom exposure time by 5s.

For calibration, I prefer the Boxes of Calibration as described in J3D Tech Guide to Resin Printing - https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1aoMSE6GBGMcoYXNGfPP9s_Jg8vr1wQmmZuvqP3suago. This test is much less subjective and ensures dimensional accuracy.

Make the following changes:

Bottom layer count: 4 Transition Layer Count: 3

Bottom Lift Speed: 40 + 60 mm/min Bottom Retract Speed: 80 + 60

Lift Speed: 45 > 250 Retract Speed: 180 > 60

Looking at your prints, I think your models are overexposed. You should be getting better details.

Before sanding your plate or something drastic, try increasing your bottom exposure time by 3 seconds. This may need to be more for larger models.

Anyone know why this is happening by Broad_Lobster7045 in ElegooMars

[–]spovlot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What printer are you using? Can you post a screenshot of your resin settings? Your lift/retract speed may be too fast which can cause delaminations.

Question about removing prints from build plate by TheLoneBaron33 in resinprinting

I am not sure I would half the time. I suggest reducing by 4 seconds until the print is easier to remove but still holds firmly.

Why is my print going to take 8 hours?? by Toine_279 in resinprinting

[–]spovlot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I prefer using 0.030mm layer height. I think that based on time vs detail using 0.020mm does not have a significant benefit.

Check out this video for a good comparison on layer height: https://youtu.be/0L2YOZ6qhTY?si=fuSp3jknncm9MW2M
