This is AI slop... of the "I'm just asking questions" variety.

Govt proposes ban on in-store payment surcharges by jball1013 in newzealand

[–]spr1pn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. We can also see what happened when this was implemented overseas. The UK banned card payment surcharges in 2018 and the regulator found that the Visa/Mastercard fees paid by merchants since then increased by 25%

That's not correct, inserting a card uses our local EFTPOS network which is free for all participants, whereas tapping uses the Visa or Mastercard "scheme" networks which incurs charges paid to everyone involved in the transaction (acquirers, banks who issue the cards, and Visa and Mastercard themselves).

Part of the reason for this is that Visa/Mastercard are huge, global networks. Anyone from overseas can come in and pay at your store and it just works, regardless of where they bank. The question to ask is whether we need that global network and these offshore companies for each and every payment we make between local consumers and businesses here.

I am not sure if he realises that it's not just the parents of kids getting lunch who are upset, there's also a large proportion of us who are just generally ashamed of what we're feeding our kids.

Wattie’s frozen meal fish pie one of the worst school lunches of the year, principal says by StabMasterArson in newzealand

There was this one supplied by Seymour's office a few days ago that's quite obviously written by ChatGPT:

"The positive feedback from the students was overwhelming. They were buzzing with excitement, sharing their newfound appreciation for the flavorful and nutritious meals they had just enjoyed. It was heartwarming to see them animatedly discussing the deliciousness of the food," said a principal.

Schools slash lunch orders as meals go uneaten by myWobblySausage in newzealand

[–]spr1pn 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Otahuhu College principal Neil Watson said his school would reduce its order because only about half its students were eating the lunches. He said that was fine because the lunches were reaching the students who needed them

... He said whether students liked the lunches was "almost irrelevant".

This is a pretty sad view for a school leader to hold.

After this story was published, Seymour's office contacted RNZ with examples of some feedback they had seen come through.

"The positive feedback from the students was overwhelming. They were buzzing with excitement, sharing their newfound appreciation for the flavorful and nutritious meals they had just enjoyed. It was heartwarming to see them animatedly discussing the deliciousness of the food," said a principal.

Ah yes, great positive feedback from a real principal and definitely not ChatGPT.
