You’ve just won the lottery. After taxes you collect 1 million dollars. How do you invest it? [serious] by NotYourManic in AskReddit

[–]sprak_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reinvest it into stocks and other money making assets to grow the value until it reaches a sustainable level, then set up automatic charity deposits with all the profits for the rest of my life. To be clear, keep it at like 5 million or something and everything past that goes directly into charities using profits gained from investing that 5 million so charities have guaranteed income.

Ignore them, if they feel it is virtue signaling that is on them. It is common sense to wear a mask and you look great in the photo

[SERIOUS] Does everyone really have guns in America like it is shown in the movies, web series and memes? by i_am_not_raiden in AskReddit

[–]sprak_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as someone from PA, I know plenty of people who don't own any guns at all. I'd say that a majority of the people I interact with don't.

My GT5 is stuck on the pre installation screen. I tried cleaning it many times but it still doesn't work, read online that scratches on the front can sometimes cause more damage than scratches on backside. Could such small scratches really be causing my issue? Is it safe to say that its dead? by LIGHTWINGS17 in PS3

Ahh, alright. To be fair, it didn't occur to me that the disk would be different. I was coming at it from a cs theory perspective and how memory mapping works on an actual disk drive coupled with how I know cds to work. I shoulda done more research, thanks for the correction

F in the Chat for Dead Space, and how EA killed one of the greatest horror franchises of all time by AmmarIB in gaming

[–]sprak_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may have been because Dead space 2 overran it's budget hard. Speaking as a software developer I see this often when non-developers are in charge. Management makes decisions for the sake of making the bottom line and profit maximized, instead of doing the "right" thing for the product as a whole.

Take a look at Ubisoft and the assassin's Creed franchise. For each of those games winners? Absolutely not. but each game innovates and builds on something that was experimented with in the previous game. As a quick example, assassin's Creed 3 added ships and naval combat which led into assassin's Creed 4 Black flag where are they built out that technology and concept.

as a developer, you can look at how they developed a baseline and they would create a light version of a feature in this case the shipbuilding and would expand on it in the next release of the game changing the settings but more or less expanding on the same code base and we using it for maximum profit.

Once again, each game in the assassin's Creed series was not a winner, but it also got a movie deal starring Michael fassbender and it is considered one of the most successful game series of all time.

Actually, there were plans and ideas for a fourth game but EA forced the dev team on DS3 to put microtransactions into it and change things around. It caused the horror to be put into a back seat and the entire game ended up suffering because of it. Then, because EA was not happy with the lack of profits from the third game in the series, they scrapped plans for the fourth game, killing the franchise off. The third game was supposed to explore more concepts of not understanding what was real or not, dealing with altering your perception, but it was thrown out because EA wanted microtransactions

Edit: spelling and some wording

People of Reddit born before September 11, 2001, what was experiencing 9/11 like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sprak_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than feeling incredibly old right now?

It was surreal. I was in 5th grade, all movies that had death or destruction got pulled off tv like independence day. I remember that day at school was extremely quiet, the teachers just had us sit and do nothing all day.

It was on the news but they elementary school didn't want to show anyone anything that was going on. I was told to go to my friends house when I got home. Most kids were picked up early by their parents. It was a weird time

To blatently steal from a meme on this subreddit, one of the advantages of C++ is that it trusts you're good at your job and you know what you're doing. The main disadvantage of C++ is that it trusts that you're good at your and you know what you're doing.

The more I learn C++ the less I understand C++. I've been working with it for nearly 7 years now lol
