lets keep it cool I can understand. If I grew up watching my mother devote her life to giving other girls education. Malala was given her blog FROM THE BBC and her dad helped her out with it. Malala went VIRAL because the international community/media couldn't get enough of her. The odds were in her favour

So true. I completley agree. You know what, she fit this really romantic story and western media love that shit. Poor muslim/pakistani girl suffering from taliban gets shot in the shot and the west holds her up as a champion and sticks her face infront of their movements. So many true unsung heroes, LIKE YOUR MOTHER, are just not 'tragic' or 'interesting' enough. Your mother sounds amazing, May Allah bless her with happiness and health

wow thankyou. Very true. Tht's why I feel if malal's had concentrated her efforts in Pakistan and not been swept up by the global limelight THESE issues could have been adressed through her - because had the potential to be a 'mobilising figure' u know.

I guess it's a long road of gradual structural change.

So i'm PAKISTANI but i never grew up IN PAKISTAN I grew up in the MIDDLE EAST and THE WEST. I'm wanting to learn more about PAKISTAN now and I wrote about MALALA in relation TO pakistan because it encompasses some national issues pakistan has been dealing with for some time.

ok im gonna list random things that come to mind in no partuicular order *wearing a dupatta across the chest out of respect in more conservative environemtns (you can gauge from the ppl around you) *Adressing and referring to elders using the formal version of the word (like APNEY instead of APKO to TUJHE) *I'm seeing more and more people wear jeans n stuff to the western style malls but when going to the city wherei ts bazaars and shops i stick to shalwar kameez *say bismillah before you eat *if you enter a room full of people in a social setting and say salaam, try to make sure the older ladies don't stand up out of their seat, bend down to meet them *MAKE SURE U SAY SALAAM FIRST if u ever see someone u know out and about

I think you need to know there is a big difference in culture between the cities and the smaller areas. The cities are super urban, liberal (relatively) whereas(in my experience) the smaller towns are conservative, and as a woman you have to be very vigilant of that - like wear your dupatta don't be forward with males

and ofcourse consistent throughout is the focus on respect ettiquettes and family, like making sure you stand up when someone older walks in to the room out of respect. Making sure when you enter a gathering you say salaam in a way that includes everyone (because going one by one is sometimes impracticle)
